P400 and Ultium 448 SAS
I use a brand new ML370G5 with two P400 SAS-Controllers (Dez. 2008)
Four Harddisk an the Ultrium 448 on first Controller.
Eight Harddisk on second Controller.
OperatingSystem ist RedHat EL 5 64bit.
Kernel 2.6.18-92 (latest Version for cpq_cciss-3.6.18-23.rhel5.x86_64.rpm)
I use the latest Driver and Firmware:
P400-Driver: cpq_cciss-3.6.18-23.rhel5.x86_64.rpm from HP-Webside
P400-Controller-Firmware: 5.20
Ultium 448 Firmware: T61D
Installed HP-Smart-CD: 8.15
I use just the TAR command for the backup. (tar cvf /dev/st0 /my-files)
Following comes after rebooting the Server, it seems ok for me:
Dec 19 15:14:16 localhost kernel: scsi0 : cciss
Dec 19 15:14:16 localhost kernel: Vendor: HP Model: Ultrium 2-SCSI Rev: T61D
Dec 19 15:14:16 localhost kernel: Type: Sequential-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 05
Dec 19 15:14:16 localhost kernel: scsi 0:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg0 type 1
Dec 19 15:14:16 localhost kernel: st: Version 20050830, fixed bufsize 32768, s/g segs 256
Dec 19 15:14:16 localhost kernel: st 0:0:0:0: Attached scsi tape st0
Dec 19 15:14:16 localhost kernel: st0: try direct i/o: yes (alignment 512 B)
During the tar-backup one of the following Error ocours:
Dec 19 16:48:08 linsprech kernel: cciss0: aborting tardy SCSI cmd
Dec 19 16:48:08 linsprech kernel: cciss0: command could not be aborted.
Dec 19 16:48:08 linsprech kernel: cciss0: resetting tape drive or medium changer.
Dec 19 16:48:08 linsprech kernel: st0: Error 6000000 (sugg. bt 0x0, driver bt 0x6, host bt 0x0).

Dec 19 18:22:39 linsprech kernel: cciss0: aborting tardy SCSI cmd
Dec 19 18:22:39 linsprech kernel: cciss0: command could not be aborted.
Dec 19 18:22:39 linsprech kernel: cciss0: resetting tape drive or medium changer.
Dec 19 18:22:39 linsprech kernel: st 0:0:0:0: scsi: Device offlined - not ready after error recovery
Dec 19 18:22:39 linsprech kernel: st0: Error 6000000 (sugg. bt 0x0, driver bt 0x6, host bt 0x0).
Dec 19 18:22:39 linsprech kernel: st 0:0:0:0: rejecting I/O to offline device
Dec 19 18:22:39 linsprech kernel: st0: Error 10000 (sugg. bt 0x0, driver bt 0x0, host bt 0x1).
After these errors I use
# mt -f /dev/st0 status
/dev/st0: Input/output error
No backup ist possible now, til I reboot the server.
What's wrong ??
Any ideas ??
Best Rgards

Re: P400 and Ultium 448 SAS
Don't put a tape drive on a RAID controller...
In the QuickSpecs for the server you'll see this:
"For the ML370 G5, HP recommends purchasing the HP SC44Ge HBA (416096-B21) for a dedicated SAS HBA for tape."
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12478_div/12478_div.html
Cheers,
Rob

Re: P400 and Ultium 448 SAS
Thanks for your answer.
It should be possible to conect the 448 on the P400 Raid-controller:
It in the Hardware compatibility list for the Ultrium 448 you can read this:
http://www.hp.com/products1/storage/compatibility/tapebackup/ISS/Detail/16-0037-0110.html
Best regards
Robert

Re: P400 and Ultium 448 SAS
And if HP's says that it is a supported config... It need to work, so does anyone have a solution for this issue?
I need to put it online asap:(
My system is a HP DL360 G5 with a HP 448 SAS in an external case.
