After installing smart array 4200 the internal scsi (b) does not want to pick my dlt 40 80 drive?

Make sure the 4200 is the first controller - if it's the boot controller. The IDE-CD controller should be next followed by the embedded SCSI. Then try removing the driver for the embedded controller and reinstalling it.
This is assuming that the tape drive DOES show up during startup (POST). If it doesn't show up them, make sure the embedded controller is still enabled.
