MSL6030 Ultrium 960 Drive - Tape Selection
I need to find out how this library selects tapes.
Is there any logical order to how tapes are being selected.?
Can we configure which tape is selected out of the pool of tapes?
The situation is as follows:
We places a bundle of tapes into the library and the robotic library picks out tapes what seems to be randomly from the pool of tapes that are free in the library.
We are using BackupExec to do the backups.
The tape drive/loader unit we have is:
HP StorageWorks MSL6030 Tape Library 1 Ultrium 960 Drive, Part #:AD606A
Can anyone give some info/intel on this....

Re: MSL6030 Ultrium 960 Drive - Tape Selection
depending if the library is in random mode or sequential mode, this change:
random mode is the default one, this mean that the robotic controller is managed by the backup application, so bexec decide which tape have to be loaded and when.
sequential mode (also called stacker moode), this is used without backup application controll, and used generaly with autoloader: the next tape is loaded when the previous one is full. This mode is usualy not use with libraries
