Re: extend file system /var

extend file system /var

Hi,

vg00 has four drives. Currently /var (mirrored) is on two drives that are nearly full. I want to extend /var to the second pair of drives. What is my procedure for PA-RISC, HP-UX 11.23?

Thanks.

Re: extend file system /var

With onlineJFS it can be done just online, otherwise go into single user mode; vgextend to the new pair of drives, then lvextend and extend the fs.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: extend file system /var

Hi Jerry,

To increase the size of the volume u must have Online JFS installed, by that u can change the size of lvol run time.

steps:
lvextend -L /dev/vgXX/lvolXX

fsadm -F vxfs -b

Hope this helps U.

Re: extend file system /var

Hi,

1. add the drives to vg00 => vgexted disk
2. implement PVG group ( man lvmpvg)if required.

3. lvextend -L xxxxMB /dev/vg00/lvol8 ( lvol8 - use lvol for var)

4. fsadm -b xxxxKB /var ( if online jfs installed)

==============
if no online jfs, boot in to single usermod and use extendfs command to extend.

There are several threads available in ITRC itself which discuss about this.

Search in google , "extend /var + itrc" you will get many threads.

==> by the way, whats your current boot disk size.
why you want to span vg00 to an other disk?
