Need Enterprise Anti-Spyware Recommendations

Need Enterprise Anti-Spyware Recommendations

We are trying to decide on the best enterprise AS app for our network. The current issue of WindowsITPro April 2005, page 27, has a review of 5 apps:

eTrust PestPatrol AS Corp. Ed.
DynaComm i:scan
Omniquad AS Enterprise Ed.
Counter Spy Enterprise
SpyCatcher Enterprise

The next version of Symantec AV Corp. Ed. will have a new AS feature.

The next version of Webroot SpySweeper Enterprise is rumored to be pretty good.

Has anyone had experience with any of these apps, or other suggestions for fighting spyware at the enterprise level?

I need detailed info, specifics.

Thanks for any info.

Re: Need Enterprise Anti-Spyware Recommendations

Jay,

PestPatrol was strongly recommended in one of the Security Semenars I have attended:

Personally, I'll wait for MS Anti-Spyware, will create MSI package and will push the package through AD GPO...It's free

But it's only if you don't have legacy MS OS?

Oops, forgot to say that I have been using Webroot SpySweeper when it was free and it's a good one but it's no different than Ani-Spyware!

Re: Need Enterprise Anti-Spyware Recommendations

Hi Jay,

Spysweeper is a pretty good program - there's a 30 day free trial or you can pay for the full version. I've had no problems with it to date.

I recently read a review for several anti-spyware programs here:

Hope this helps

Re: Need Enterprise Anti-Spyware Recommendations

Hi Latif,

We will probably end up using SAV CE v10, since we are already using SAV CE v9.1. I have heard that v10 is due to be released quite soon, perhaps next week.

http://www.symantec.com/press/2005/n050214.html

We have been using the MS Anti-Spyware beta on some test machines. I suppose MAS is OK for home users and small networks, but for larger networks, I think it makes sense for anti-virus software and anti-spyware software to be rolled into one client/server app.

In addition to realtime protection, we need centralized management, and updates automatically applied to the clients. The whole process needs to be completely transparent to the user.

Re: Need Enterprise Anti-Spyware Recommendations

We had SAV Corp E V8.x but it had been replaced with Trends which has an integrated tool to cleanup trojan programs and malicious codes. This was the Corp decision.

I'd think you should test the SAV first if it's the first release for an integrated version with spyware/adware cleaner prior to the deployment

However, MS Anti-Spyware updates itself so it won't hurt to add it to the workstations in my LAN. It'll be nice if Microsoft adds a console or a tool to manage all the anti-spyware logs from a centralized location.

Re: Need Enterprise Anti-Spyware Recommendations

We've been using Spysweeper, and have had good results.

We're looking at licensing one of the following in the near future:

Spysweeper

McAfee (only because we currently have a Campus agreement for their Anti-Virus package).

MS Spyware.

My preference is Webroot's Spysweeper.

Re: Need Enterprise Anti-Spyware Recommendations

We will be looking at the newly released SAV CE v10 (with the anti-spyware feature) on a few test machines.

Anyone else looking at this new version?

Re: Need Enterprise Anti-Spyware Recommendations

I recently upgraded our AV servers and clients to SAVCE10. The spyware/adware functionality builtin to the product seems to be working flawlessly (knock on keyboard).

I highly recommend it.

Thanks Doug,

In a week or two, I will probably start a new thread about SAV CE v10, rather than extend this thread.
