Get AMP’d about modernizing your big data platform

As I speak to more and more clients who have invested in Hadoop-based platforms and integrated big data analytics into their enterprise architectures, I’ve recognized a shift is taking place. Organizations want to modernize and replace these platforms to meet the ever-increasing demands of the business. My colleague, Doug Cackett, writes about this shift in his industrialization blog series, explaining how organizations are looking to more tightly integrate data and analytic platforms closely to their application portfolios.

Pressures to move to the cloud, adopt containers/Kubernetes, and ensure the entire information estate conforms to the security requirements of the organization—are common themes that cross organizations of every size and industry. These modernization and migration efforts are being fast-tracked because Cloudera has marked end-of-life and end-of-support for the current Hadoop distros,  forcing a migration to CDP/Ozone. Additionally, many organizations are demanding more value from their big data, which is also accelerating migration efforts. For some organizations, removing their existing Hortonworks or Cloudera platforms is easy because they have only used those platforms as scale-out data lake storage. In this case, there isn’t always a clear mapping between the applications and databases in those Hadoop-based “stacks” and what is available in the open source community.
