Hybrid Data Analytics Simplifies the Data-First Capabilities your Business Needs
As consumers, we benefit from analytics, AI, and ML in interesting ways. When shopping online, we are given โrecommendationsโ of other items we could add to our cart. Analytics and statistics are the first thing we comb through when deciding who to include in our fantasy sports leagues. Even our healthcare can be improved, as doctors routinely use AI to spot disease in early stages.
But when it comes to business, I still hear โHow do I translate this technology into actionable use cases?โ.
Fun, educational data analytics demos at HPE Discover
To help customers envision how analytics, AI, and ML could be of value to their business, we showcased live demonstrations of HPE Ezmeral at HPE Discover. These demos centered around two real-world use cases: predictive and real-time analytics.
All data was ingested, centralized, indexed, and processed with HPE Ezmeral Data Fabric. This single platform can be deployed across many physical clusters and multiple locations to deliver a completely integrated data and analytics platform, enabling customers to find that key insight in a field of data.
Predictive analytics
This type of analytics is perfect for use cases such as predicting buyer behavior, fraud detection, healthcare diagnosis, content recommendations, equipment maintenance, and virtual assistants. In our demo, we collected and collated data at the edge including wind speed and power generation per hour, day, and month. This data was gathered across the globe from Australia, California, and our live windmills at HPE Discover 2022. A model was created and trained to tap these remote data sources directly, read the data, and then process it right at the location. We used HPE Ezmeral Data Fabric to ingest sensor data, centralize it, and then process it using Apache Spark.
Figure 1. Windmill Power Production PredictionFigure 1 (above) shows a prediction of maximum power production to help energy professionals plan the amount of kilowatt per hour energy being produced at various wind speeds for each windmill.
As with any device, optimizing the arch and placement of windmills is important to translate wind into energy. Figure 2 (below) shows azimuth angles of 0-90 and 180-225 are the optimum angles for generating maximum wind power.

This type of analytics is ideal for use cases that cannot tolerate latency in data processing or for organizations that need to make decisions within milliseconds to accommodate the fast pace of business. Such a scenario could occur in retail, manufacturing, financial services, quality assurance, mining, and geologic use cases. Our most popular demo at HPE Discover 2022 was our drone demo where we used HPE Ezmeral Data Fabric for real-time streaming of video images and a model trained to identify humans versus other objects. Image capture, processing, and analytics were completed at the edge, which in this case was the drone. (You can watch the Chalk Talk featuring this drone demo video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORoJWzJEvvQ at the end of this blog.)
Gain a competitive advantage
In parts of many organizations today, data and analytics is being viewed as an essential driver of competitive advantage and organizational resilience. Industry analysts recommend organizations invest in data and analytics as a core business capability to operationalize business benefits at scale. Analysts all agree this can only happen using a unified data layer. [1]
HPE Ezmeral Data Fabric delivers that unified data layer your business needs to make data and analytics a competitive advantage. It removes data silos by acquiring data across multiple physical locations, data sources, and types and then placing it into a single logical data store. Next, the data fabric makes the acquired data globally available and secure with a single global namespace and a built-in security management system. HPE Ezmeral Data Fabric simplifies access and reduces the need for 8-10 unique solutions to build, deploy, secure, manage, and integrate global data.
