XL420, RHEL installs does not pick up the embeded disk controller, as first

On XL420 managed through OneView
Through OneView we define the disk layout for the Embeded Storage Controller
Then if we proceed with the install, through iLO, the OS will be installed on the first volume configured on the controller installed in Slot1
That seems due to the fact the controller in slot1 is the 1st one presented to the OS.
How can we enforce the embeded controller to be the first one to be presented to the OS by BIOS ?

P840 Slot 0 (Embeded) [SYSVOL=2x1TB(R1); DATAVOL=10x1TB(R5)]
P440 Slot 1 (PCI1) [12x1TB]
P440 Slot 2 (PCI2) [1x1TB]

We disabled the PCI1/2 slot,  then proceed with install, the install worked, but, at the next reboot, the controller went back into the wrong order Slot1, Slot0 , Slot2. And the server did not boot.

Any help appreciated :-)

Re: XL420, RHEL installs does not pick up the embeded disk controller, as first

Please ensure that the server is updated to the latest SPP currently 2018.11.0 as there are some firmware fixes for the controller boot order.

http://h17007.www1.hpe.com/us/en/enterprise/servers/products/service_pack/spp/index.aspx

Once this is done, check and configure the boot controller order in BIOS/UEFI/RBSU.

Once the above is done, try the OS installation and further proceedings.

Please do help us understand if the issue got resolved or not?

If issue got resolved then how?

Re: XL420, RHEL installs does not pick up the embeded disk controller, as first

Hi, the SPP was the latest at the time.

In the end we did not use OneView to manage controller/disk (OneView can manage one controller at a time, and does not allow you to choose which disks to deploy on) . It was done through iLoRest, using "createlogicaldrive" not straight forward either, since controllers do not show up always on same order, even for identical HW. But it worked.
