Groundbreaking advancements unveiled: HPE Alletra Storage MP B10000
The future of storage just got even better. Are you ready?
Today, HPE is introducing breakthroughs in unified disaggregated scale-out file and block storage with release 5 (10.5.0) of HPE Alletra Storage MP B10000. This enhances infrastructure efficiency and introduces advanced ransomware detection technology. HPE also announced an expansion to our public cloud data services with a new block storage solution for Azure. Get the details now.
– By Ling Wang, Senior Product Marketing Manager, Storage and Cloud Data Services, HPE
Now more than ever, IT infrastructure is crucial to your organization’s digital presence and business success. Traditional storage systems often bring challenges like inefficiency and high operational costs, which can slow down innovations. To truly transform, your organization needs a platform that maximizes efficiency, provides a cloud-like experience everywhere, and ensures applications are always running and protected.
Well, guess what? Today, HPE is shaking things up with some major advancements in the HPE Alletra Storage MP platform. This marks a major milestone in our “Power of One” journey – a unified platform for all kinds of data, storage media, workloads, and deployment models across hybrid multi-cloud environments. HPE is now the first enterprise storage vendor to deliver native block and file unified storage with a disaggregated scale-out architecture, thanks to the HPE Alletra Storage MP B10000 release 10.5.0.1 This underscores our commitment to leading the way in storage innovation, making infrastructure management simpler and more efficient.
But that's not all. HPE is also expanding its cloud data services by adding a Software-Defined Storage (SDS) solution in Microsoft Azure with HPE Alletra Block Storage for Azure.2 And we’re stepping up our game in cybersecurity too, with native ransomware detection at the storage level on the B10000, 1 complementing Zerto software capability at the application level for dual-layered protection. Later this year, we’ll be rolling out some industry-leading SLAs and guarantees focused on productivity, efficiency, cyber resiliency, and workload optimization to help you meet your business goals.
The industry’s first unified file and block storage with disaggregated scale-out architecture
Now, let's talk about the B10000. It’s been making waves since it was first launched two years ago and is now the fastest-growing, best-selling storage product in HPE’s history. With this new announcement, we expect its prominence in the industry to skyrocket even more.
The B10000 features a groundbreaking unified file and block, shared-everything, and disaggregated scale-out architecture. Unlike legacy HA pair designs, the B10000 is built on standardized composable building blocks of separate compute (controller nodes) and capacity (disk expansion shelves/JBOFs) interconnected by a high-speed, redundant NVMe switch fabric. This means you can scale performance and capacity independently, and more granularly, with unparalleled flexibility to meet evolving business needs. The efficiency-optimized design also leads to significant cost savings of up to 40%4 by maximizing resource utilization and minimizing over-provisioning. Plus, its seamless scalability means it can grow with your business, allowing you to start small and scale out as you expand, without costly upgrades.
By unifying block and file storage, the architecture eliminates the need for separate systems for different data types, reducing complexity and operational overheads. This native unified support allows for the consolidation of storage infrastructure, handling a variety of workloads like databases, virtualization, and containerized applications with consistent and simplified management at scale. For example, the B10000 enables customers to address workloads that require both protocols, such as SAP HANA that runs on block protocol but with logs that need file protocol, with a single storage system OS.
Expanded public cloud data services with Azure
There’s more. Now managing hybrid cloud storage just got a lot easier. We already support cloud data services in AWS with HPE Alletra Block Storage for AWS, as well as on-prem storage services of AWS Outpost with HPE Alletra Storage MP B10000. Now, with the addition of Azure public cloud support, customers have more choices for public cloud data services.
HPE simplifies the management of different infrastructure components by providing consistent tools and workflows across both on-premises and public cloud storage with the same storage OS and a unified data control plane of Data Services Cloud Console (DSCC). This integration reduces operational silos, improves visibility, and enhances cost efficiency at scale.
The integration with Azure enhances data mobility across the hybrid cloud, making it easier to move data and workloads where they need to be. It also enables backup, disaster recovery, and test and development in the cloud. This agility is crucial for businesses adapting to changing demands.
Now you can take advantage of the same comprehensive AIOps across the hybrid cloud, which includes AI-driven intelligence and recommendations that automate provisioning and support, creating the foundation for autonomous storage management. You will also get enterprise-grade data services and storage efficiencies, enabling the deployment of mission-critical applications in the cloud without compromising on performance, security, or availability.
Comprehensive ransomware detection and protection
And last but not least, let’s discuss ransomware protection. We all know ransomware is a huge threat to organizations worldwide. I am sure you have heard true stories of how ransomware attacks caused catastrophic financial losses to large corporations. In release 10.5.0 of the B10000, we deliver cutting-edge cyber resilience technologies to guard against ransomware attacks. It features real-time ransomware detection using anomaly detection methodologies to identify malicious encryption indicative of ransomware attacks. It is dynamic and adaptive, capable of detecting both traditional ransomware and newer, more sophisticated variants that traditional techniques might miss. It also integrates with third-party security solutions and offers a comprehensive cyber resilience workflow aligned with the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, covering governance, identification, protection, detection, response, and recovery.
In the event of a breach, the solution facilitates the restoration of uncorrupted data from tamper-proof immutable snapshots, significantly reducing recovery time and costs. It helps identify candidates for data recovery by pinpointing the last good snapshots taken before the onset of an anomaly.3 Additionally, ransomware detection and protection can be layered on top of any HPE disaster recovery topologies, such as Active Peer Persistence, for rapid recovery. You can quickly fail over to a second site and/or an air-gapped third site and recover from immutable snapshots.
Additionally, we offer dual-layer protection from ransomware. In addition to the storage-level protection with B10000, Zerto's inline detection during replication and rapid recovery capabilities at the VM-level provides continuous data protection and near-instantaneous recovery points to minimize data loss and downtime during ransomware attacks.
Let your journey begin with the B10000
So there you have it. The future of storage is here. With its revolutionary architecture, AI-powered cloud experience, and robust data security, the B10000 sets a new benchmark in the storage industry. Imagine a modern infrastructure that can save you 40% on total cost of ownership4 reduce energy consumption by 45%,4 and simplify your tasks and reduce operational times by 98%4 with with autonomous data management across hybrid multi-cloud environments – all helping to provide the ultimate peace of mind from downtime and cyber threats.
Are you ready to take your storage infrastructure to the next level? Let's get started. Check out the following resources today to learn more about how the B10000 can transform your business.
