Healthcare news: HPE Alletra and HPE StoreOnce now MEDITECH certified
Learn about the technology at work and testing required to certify HPE Alletra 6000 and HPE StoreOnce for the MEDITECH Electronic Health Records (EHR) management systems.
– By Nicholas White, Healthcare & Life Sciences Solutions Product Manager, HPE Storage
Here’s the news: MEDITECH has added HPE Alletra 6000 to its Supported Storage Platforms list. This follows joint certification in conjunction with BridgeHead Software’s RAPid for MEDITECH Data Protection suite using HPE StoreOnce as the backup target.
HPE and MEDITECH: A long-standing alliance in healthcare solutions
Healthcare providers typically run a sophisticated medical or health record management (EHR) system such as EXPANSE from leading EHR vendor MEDITECH to meet the challenge of managing patient records and data, workflows, and care delivery. A provider’s EHR is central to ensuring 24x7x365 access to patient data, efficient clinical workflows, and ultimately the delivery of care.
To ensure the reliable operation and performance of its system, MEDITECH provides clear technical and functional guidance on the underlying infrastructure required. HPE and MEDITECH collaborate to test and validate HPE storage platforms against MEDITECH’s technical requirements. Thorough testing and validation ensure that HPE can provide the optimal storage solution to MEDITECH customers of all sizes.
Today, HPE can now officially offer the performance and resilience of Alletra 6000 as a certified storage solution for healthcare providers running MEDITECH EHR.
Detailing the testing process
Following thorough testing, MEDITECH has certified and added the HPE Alletra 6000 to its customer storage technology guide for use as the primary storage for patient records data within its HER system. Records system.
Working closely with the HPE Partner Solutions Lab, HPE Storage Solutions Engineering provided MEDITECH with an HPE Alletra 6030 storage system, an HPE StoreOnce target, and suitable compute and connectivity resources. Delivering successful validation and impressive performance across both solutions, the HPE Alletra 6000 can now be positioned to address a medium-to-large healthcare system’s critical patient data management requirements while providing truly flexible consumption and management options designed to address growing infrastructure costs.
The testing process followed two phases:
Phase 1: MEDITECH ran its healthcare provider workload simulation against the HPE Alletra 6030.
Phase 2: Bridgehead Software tested their RAPid for MEDITECH Data Protection solution against the StoreOnce to complete the customer workload simulation. Hewlett Packard Enterprise continues to work with MEDITECH on testing to ensure that HPE Alletra 9000 arrays meet the performance and scalability requirements for MEDITECH.
How HPE Alletra 6000 delivers when it comes to healthcare provider workloads
The HPE Alletra 6000 system is ideally suited to the extreme latency sensitivity and availability requirements of large-scale EHR management systems. HPE Alletra 6000 can help MEDITECH customers address the agility-versus-reliability tradeoff of public cloud versus traditional enterprise storage by ensuring an as-a-service experience for both on-premises and HPE GreenLake cloud-based offerings.
HPE Alletra 6000 also has an incredibly strong pedigree, building on the heritage of HPE Nimble Storage that delivered a decade of game-changing innovation across intelligence, predictive support, and hybrid cloud.
Healthcare providers critical EHR databases, virtual machine (VM), and container farms need fast, efficient, cost-effective storage solutions. With an ultra-efficient architecture for superior price-performance, the HPE Alletra 6000 is ideally suited HPE Alletra 6000to take on the challenges of a healthcare providers systems.
HPE Alletra 6000 delivers fast, consistent performance with industry-leading data efficiency. The secret sauce is the OS as it optimizes data layout on the media. As data is written or updated on the array, the changes are processed for data reduction first and then written to the media in large stripes.
This unique and ultra-efficient approach provides numerous advantages, freeing HPE Alletra 6000 to run with multiple compression algorithms which compress data depending on resource utilization. HPE Alletra 6000 is also smart enough to know when to use the different algorithms, further increasing the system’s efficiency. Every second of every day, HPE Alletra 6000 achieves a near-perfect balance between efficiency and high performance. This is how it consistently delivers superior price-performance backed by a resilient system that healthcare providers can count on.
Tested, proven, and healthcare ready 99.9999% availability
HPE Alletra 6000 builds on the tested and proven HPE Nimble Storage architecture that based on a decade of customer data (as opposed to baffling math simulations others may use) has a proven track record of delivering 99.9999% data availability. Each HPE Alletra 6000 array comes with a 6-nines availability guarantee as a standard benefit for every customer.
A key contributing factor to HPE Alletra 6000 availability is Triple+ Parity RAID, which can handle three simultaneous drive failures with zero performance impact. Triple+ Parity RAID allows a system to have zero data integrity issues even if every single drive in the system is experiencing sector read errors in parallel and three drives have been lost! That’s a level of resiliency against time-correlated errors that no other array in the world even comes close to offering.
HPE engineered both the Alletra 6000 and Alletra 9000 for a cloud-native design by tightly coupling both platforms with our Data Services Cloud Console. This means through one consistent data experience you can easily meet any SLA requirement with the right performance, resiliency, and efficiency to match the needs of each application or container. No tradeoffs.
