HPE GreenLake for File Storage boosts performance density and throughput for AI workloads
HPE GreenLake for File Storage introduces higher performance density, capacity, and throughput with InfiniBand support to accelerate AI performance with NVIDIA® GPUDirect® and RDMA capabilities. Read the blog to learn more.
–By David Yu, HPE Storage Product Marketing
Today, HPE introduces key enhancements to our efficient all-flash unstructured data platform, HPE GreenLake for File Storage, that enable you to power large-scale AI workloads as they grow and evolve. These new enhancements can accelerate AI data aggregation and data preparation and speed AI model training and tuning, including for GenAI and Large Language Models (LLMs). Support for 30TB NVMe SSDs and connectivity to new NVIDIA Quantum-2 InfiniBand for GPU-centric compute are available to order today. These and upcoming enhancements can increase the capacity density and throughput by seven times1, and will be available early the first half of 2024.
All these introductions allow you to preserve and extend your current investment in the HPE GreenLake for File Storage solution. With these new additions, HPE GreenLake for File Storage again proves itself one of the industry’s most comprehensive scale-out file data solution for demanding AI/ML workloads.
Why are these enhancements critical?
AI and other data-intensive applications require enterprise performance at scale as they process huge volumes of file data. When we introduced HPE GreenLake for File Storage on April 4, 2023, the announcement blog highlighted the power of this new cloud data service with a cloud operational experience to supercharge your data-intensive applications, including AI/ML/DL and HPC, and this is another step in enhancing performance and capacity scaling for those applications.
With the enhancements available in early first half of 2024, HPE GreenLake for File Storage will deliver up to 2.3 times the performance density and capacity density of Dell PowerScale and Pure FlashBlade.2
Digging into the details of what is orderable now
HPE GreenLake for File Storage improves connectivity for the most demanding GPU-accelerated AI workloads with new support for the NVIDIA Quantum-2 InfiniBand networking platform that includes remote direct-memory access (RDMA) and GPUDirect® technology. You can leverage this enhancement to accelerate AI workloads and outcomes by boosting performance in the model training and model tuning stages, including faster checkpointing. You can also drive flexibility via front-end host InfiniBand connectivity to EDR(100Gb/s), HDR(200Gb/s), or NDR(400Gb/s) networks, including the NVIDIA Quantum-2 based InfiniBand network platform.
HPE GreenLake for File Storage is not only fast, but fast at scale – even when processing very large file data storage capacities. Support for higher performance and larger capacities was planned as part of the trajectory of the offering from the very start, and this is another important milestone in meeting HPE customers’ AI needs. Available today, HPE GreenLake for File Storage can now scale up to 250PB of effective capacity3 for large enterprise-scale file data and provides 700+ GB/sec read and 200+ GB/s write throughput.
Enjoy an intuitive cloud experience at every step
You consume the enterprise performance-at-scale capabilities of HPE GreenLake for File Storage via a simple and intuitive cloud experience. Powered by the HPE GreenLake edge-to-cloud platform, HPE GreenLake for File Storage offers radically simple, unified file data and storage management with automatic discovery, onboarding, and configuration of new devices for easy file share creation via a single cloud console. The service offers a unified cloud operating experience for file sharing and lifecycle management alongside a rich set of over 50 cloud data services, including hybrid cloud backup and disaster recovery. HPE GreenLake for File Storage delivers storage management, monitoring, and protection of global storage environments – across your hybrid cloud from a single cloud console – to eliminate complexity, storage silos, poor performance, and low productivity. Upgrades are non-disruptive, maintenance is easy, and HPE offers proactive support.
More efficiency, more productivity
When considering file storage infrastructure, you absolutely need to secure performance at scale for today’s data-intensive workloads. And you need access to management that is both radically simple and provides an intuitive cloud experience. But you should also think about two additional factors. First, how will your solution enhance the productivity and efficiency of your valuable human resources across the board – from line-of-business application owners and subject-matter experts to IT staff? To do that, you need efficient file storage infrastructure and simplified management. And you need to make sure that your capital investments give you a high ROI.
With HPE GreenLake for File Storage, not only do you get a file storage architecture for enterprise performance at scale for AI and data-intensive apps, but you also drive cost savings by enhancing productivity and efficiency via more efficient data reduction and data protection. This makes a significant difference, not just in terms of investments in capital equipment, but also in terms of sustainability. With the huge volumes of file data that modern apps process, the data reduction, and data protection efficiencies at scale of HPE GreenLake for File Storage deliver substantial savings in data center footprint, power, and cooling.
One of the key strengths of HPE GreenLake for File Storage is that it enhances productivity and efficiency for all your data managers and data innovators. Application owners and users get simple setup and fast job completion, with easy file share creation and data sharing across a global namespace for each storage cluster. You no longer need to manage file storage infrastructure the way they did previously to get the file storage performance their applications need. And you aren’t burdened by cumbersome, legacy file systems that require technical expertise, involve intricate setup processes, and result in storage silos. Consequently, you get more productivity and efficiency out of your highly compensated subject matter experts as they save valuable time and effort while focusing on their actual work. Both IT staff and data managers/consumers enjoy a self-service cloud experience, accessible from anywhere and on any device, which frees you to work on strategic initiatives rather than being weighed down by day-to-day operations.
An ideal solution for your AI file storage needs
As you evaluate your AI file storage strategy and investments, it’s important to take an expansive view that accounts for performance at scale, management simplicity, and the effective utilization of all your resources, human and infrastructure alike. HPE GreenLake for File Storage delivers on all these fronts.
For all your modern applications, spanning AI, HPC, and all data-intensive workloads, HPE GreenLake for File Storage is the ideal solution for your file storage needs.
