Keep your data protected with the industry-leading disaster recovery solution
Learn why Zerto is the industry-leading disaster recovery solution and discover the various ways you can consume it to protect your data through HPE GreenLake.
– By Kyleigh Fitzgerald, Senior Product Marketing Manager at Zerto, a Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company
It’s fitting that Cyber Security Awareness Month happens during October. It's a spooky season. But the scary threats to your organization’s most mission-critical data are happening every single day – and have been growing year over year.
Scary natural disasters continue to devastate communities and companies across the globe, sometimes taking sites down and wreaking havoc on businesses without a disaster recovery (DR) solution in place.
Then there are ransomware attacks happening on average every 11 seconds in 2022. Now these cybercriminals are getting smarter and even building their own business models. In fact, ransomware as a service (RaaS) has used the software as a service (SaaS) model with malicious intent. Malware developers lease out ransomware and the control infrastructure to other cybercriminals, who act as affiliates. The scariest part is they’re fully supported 24/7! The RaaS offerings are similar to SaaS offerings, as they're sold in bundled packages and come with user reviews and forums. Plus, the price ranges allow the least skilled bad actors to easily become rich off a single ransomware attack – considering the average ransomware attack in 2021 was $6 million USD.*
And don't forget common human errors that make IT gasp in fright when they realize someone has deleted a critical file, especially since these events typically take place during regular business hours. If you don’t have a backup or disaster recovery plan in place, that one slip of a finger can cause more data loss, downtime, and cost to your business than any of the above-mentioned cyber threats.
So what data protection solution and strategy do you need so you’re not pale as a ghost the next time disaster strikes?
The first two factors to consider when strategizing a DR plan are recovery time objectives (RTOs) and recovery point objectives (RPOs) – and how to keep them as low as possible. By keeping RTOs low, you can resume business operations quickly and minimize downtime. Keeping RPOs lows means you minimize data loss. Combined, these both work to reduce costs for your company.
The third factor to consider is choosing a DR solution that will allow you to scale. Organizations need to continuously modernize their infrastructure with the latest technology, hardware, and software solutions – and that includes disaster recovery. Your DR solution or service should allow you to change as needed without concerns around staying protected during these business improvement processes.
This is where Zerto comes into the picture. The industry-leading disaster recovery solution for the past 13 years, the product and company joined the HPE family in September 2021. Now, with powers combined, we have created various ways for you to consume our DR solution in the best way that serves your business.
Zerto provides the fastest recovery experience from any disruption thanks to true continuous data protection (CDP) technology. True CDP consists of three main components:
- Near-synchronous replication – Replicate data at the hypervisor level with zero impact to your production environment, and with no requirements for scheduling backups, snapshots, or agents. Plus, this makes it platform agnostic. You simply set it up, replicate, and it stays always-on to keep you always protected.
- Granular journaling technology – A dynamic, battle-tested, hyper-efficient journal tracks every single change made in your application or on your server, and it logs these as checkpoints every five or 10 seconds – even with hundreds or thousands of servers. It can store the changed data for one hour up to 30 days and it offers you unmatched granularity. Simply rewind to an old checkpoint and easily recover from that exact point in time.
- App-centric recovery – Protect and recover complex multi-VM applications together as one cohesive and logical entity to the exact same point in time. This saves a ton of resources when you’re trying to reduce the amount of time dedicated to recovery.
This technology is available today through HPE in various ways, so considering your organization’s dependencies, you can choose what works for you. Learn more about Zerto as a standalond offering, or take part in the preview of HPE GreenLake for Disaster recovery that's based on Zerto technology but now available as a full SaaS-based solution on a scalable, global edge-to-cloud platform.
Whichever path you take, stay alert during these spooky times and continue to protect your company from a horrific disaster.
