HPE just announced key enhancements to HPE GreenLake for Block Storage built on Alletra MP, the industry’s only disaggregated, scale-out block storage with a 100% data availability guarantee. The new release boosts scalability with 2x more capacity,[1] simplifies management with new cross-stack AI-Ops capabilities, andHPE GreenLake for Block Storage new release- BLOG.png increases investment protection with a new always-modern storage ownership experience.

HPE GreenLake for Block Storage with Alletra MP leverages a unique software-defined, modular, and shared everything architecture – removing many of the scalability roadblocks and compromises associated with legacy dual controller-based storage today. It’s this unique block storage architecture that provides the foundation for the announcements that we are making today.

Better performance and better economics with disaggregated, scale-out storage

Unlike traditional node pair storage architectures, HPE GreenLake for Block Storage with Alletra MP is built on a disaggregated, shared everything architecture that enables it to flexibly and cost-effectively scale out to keep pace with the growing and unpredictable demands of traditional, modern, and consolidated workloads.

The disaggregation is made possible by standardized composable building blocks, comprising separate compute (controller nodes) and capacity (NVMe expansion shelves/JBOFs), interconnected by a high-speed, redundant NVMe-OF back-end switch fabric.

The evolution from a traditional node pair design to this modern architecture enables you to scale capacity and performance independently – for greater efficiency and lower costs. You gain the flexibility to fine-tune, adapt, and elastically scale storage environments in line with workload requirements and evolving business needs.  

The new release of HPE GreenLake for Block Storage with Alletra MP continues to deliver on the promise of disaggregated storage with 2x more capacity,[1] enabling you to start small, scale big – from 15TB to around 5.6 PB[2] – with support for up to sixteen JBOF expansion shelves. What’s more, support for 8-to-24 SSDs per enclosure – with the ability to upgrade drives in 2-drive increments and controller nodes in increments of one – enables you to maximize efficiency and cost savings via granular performance and capacity upgrades.

Simplify management with an AI-driven cloud management experience on-premises

We know that storage administration and support still account for most storage costs today. Streamlining and automating IT operations with advanced AI-Ops features and capabilities is an essential requirement for improving productivity and efficiency.
