Last year, during HPE Discover Barcelona 2023, we released new features, choices, and flexibility for HPE GreenLake for Private Cloud Business Edition โ including the extension of support to HPE SimpliVity environments. These innovations further demonstrate how HPE GreenLake for Private
HPE SimpliVity is HPEโs hyperconverged architecture that delivers AI-driven self-managed, self-optimizing, and self-healing infrastructure for private cloudโs virtual machines. It is one of the workload-optimized HCI tiers within HPE GreenLake that uniquely provides an efficient all-in-one solution with high availability in just two-nodes, that can be setup in resilient, stretch-cluster topologies, and includes built-in data protection. Every deployment of HPE SimpliVity leverages HPE software-defined storage and data services with the VMware vSphere hypervisor and vCenter management. The combination delivers a simple, extremely efficient platform, with high availability in all layers plus integrated data protection. New Welcome Center and HPE GreenLake global dashboard
With the release of HPE SimpliVity version 5.0 software, you can gain access to more HPE GreenLake edge-to-cloud services like HPE GreenLake for Private Cloud Business Edition and HPE GreenLake for Backup and Recovery. From a cloud operational perspective, this gives you a global dashboard for seeing your fleet of HPE SimpliVity systems and streamlining provisioning across on-prem and public cloud. From a data perspective, this gives you improved, simplified data protection with access to low-cost, off-site, cloud hosted VM backups that allow for immutable backups to help mitigate ransomware. For new deployments you can onboard clusters using the Welcome Center from HPE GreenLake.
Updated HPE SimpliVity Upgrade Planner automation for moving to HPE SimpliVity 5.0.0
The automated tool is designed to simplify upgrades and help you move to the latest software using expert support. This planner generates step-by-step upgrade plans based on information provided by HPE SimpliVity OmniStack Interoperability Guide 5.0.0. The planner covers steps to upgrade vCenter Server Appliances, HPE SimpliVity web-client plugin, HPE SimpliVity software, ILO firmware, VMware ESXi hypervisor, and more.
VMware 8.0 support with HPE SimpliVity 5.0
With software release 5.0, you can now run VMware vSphere 8 along with vSphere 7.x. This enables you to run the latest VMware hypervisor and vCenter versions with your HPE SimpliVity clusters. Also, the latest upgrade planner automation has been streamlined to improve the upgrade process when moving to VMware 8.0 from prior versions. The streamlined process is faster and saves time via improved automation. Plus, improvements have been made to error handling to ensure the upgrade process is more seamless.
Now you can leverage the latest innovation from VMware with vSphere 8 along with your existing HPE SimpliVity environment. If you have deployed HPE SimpliVity clusters and federations, you can upgrade to the latest version of VMware. If you are looking to add a new HPE SimpliVity deployment, you can choose to deploy with the latest hypervisor version from VMware. This allows you to leverage your investment in two proven solutions from VMware and HPE.
Upgrades to the HPE SimpliVity web-client plug-in for vCenter
With release 5.0, you can now enable and disable Intelligent Workload Optimizer (IWO) directly from the cluster view in vCenter. The IWO is a key feature of HPE SimpliVity. It automatically manages each VM storage container and โintelligentlyโ allocates the storage on the HPE SimpliVity nodes best suited for each VM. IWO works with VMware Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS) to enhance the platformโs performance while enforcing data locality through affinity rules.
These innovations come on the heels of the announcement on HPE GreenLake for Private Cloud Business Edition support for HPE SimpliVity as an on-prem tier for hosting virtual machines and end-user computing desktops. The news also follows last yearโs announcement about how HPE SimpliVity further simplifies VM management powered by HPE ProLiant Compute Gen10 Plus offering up to 40% increase in performance from prior systems.
