Supercharge AI by unleashing object storage data intelligence and performance
Learn about the new HPE Alletra Storage MP X10000 Release 2.0. It’s a software-defined, all-flash solution integrating data intelligence, enterprise-class performance at scale, and simplified management through the HPE GreenLake cloud. Find out how it delivers up to 6x faster object storage performance to accelerate AI workflows. – By Tim Desai, Product Marketing Manager, HPE
In November 2024, HPE transformed data storage with the introduction of HPE Alletra Storage MP X10000, a cutting-edge, software-defined, all-flash solution that offers high-performance object storage, exabyte scalability, and streamlined management via the HPE GreenLake cloud.
Introducing HPE Alletra Storage MP X10000 Release 2.0
Today, we are excited to announce the latest release of X10000 software, featuring groundbreaking data intelligence, performance, and data access enhancements designed to significantly boost the speed, quality, and relevance of your data, particularly for generative AI, large language models (LLMs), and analytics. Additionally, we are announcing new security enhancements, and more flexible OpEx acquisition options.
Storage level data intelligence delivers distinct AI benefits
As your data volume increases to petabyte and exabyte scale, it becomes increasingly impractical to move data to separate processing stacks to achieve AI-readiness. This is why data intelligence capabilities at the storage level are crucial as they streamline data operations, reduce the need for data movement, and ensure the most relevant and high-quality data is readily available for critical decision-making processes. These capabilities are pivotal for applications such as generative AI and LLMs, where the speed and accuracy of data retrieval and analysis can significantly impact outcomes.
The X10000 Release 2.0 represents a significant leap forward in AI training with unstructured data when used as part of an AI workflow. As data is ingested, in near real-time, an inline data scanning process will be initiated that engages data intelligence services such as metadata enrichment in the form of vector embeddings for use cases such as generative AI, Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) and analytics.
The X10000’s new data intelligence API and built-in software development kit (SDK) will enable instant RAG pipelines to be created. With only a few lines of code, it will be possible to connect storage with vector databases and LLMs to access the value in your data via chat or the API. Unified, seamless edge-to-cloud data access
We are excited to announce the latest advancements in data management with updated HPE Data Fabric Software, now the core data backbone of the HPE Private Cloud AI data lakehouse. HPE Data Fabric Software intelligently orchestrates data workflows, enabling seamless data ingestion and processing. This unified data layer is designed to ensure your AI models are consistently supplied with high-quality, optimized data – whether structured, unstructured, or streaming –across hybrid cloud environments.
With this update, the HPE Data Fabric unified global namespace has been expanded to support HPE Alletra Storage MP X10000 and Apache Iceberg data. This enhancement provides organizations with even greater flexibility and efficiency in managing their data across diverse storage environments. HPE Data Fabric Software customers can take advantage of heterogeneous read and write access to object systems as well as the option to integrate the X10000 as a high-performance tier for advanced analytics projects.
Drive performance and efficiency with NVIDIA RDMA
AI workloads require volumes of data to move between clients and storage almost immediately. HPE expects to further accelerate the X10000’s performance through the ongoing collaboration with NVIDIA to enable a direct data path for remote direct memory access (RDMA) transfers between GPU memory, system memory and the X10000.
NVIDIA GPU Direct RDMA support for Object bypasses CPU and TCP/IP bottlenecks, enabling low latency, rapid data access, and efficient data management. HPE will also deliver a new SDK that in combination with NVIDIA’s CUDA ecosystem will enable simple and seamless adoption of RDMA access for object data.
Cost and energy efficiency for capacity-intensive workloads
Originally launched with five TLC flash drive options up to 30 TB, the X10000 will also support 15 TB, 30 TB, and 60 TB QLC (Quad-Level Cell) SSD drives. QLC drives offer higher density, lower cost of ownership, and improved price-performance. They deliver value-optimized, high-density storage that has a lower acquisition cost than storage arrays with TLC drives, while requiring less rack space and reduced power and cooling compared to legacy hybrid storage. You can start small, scale big, and run any workload without compromise by leveraging the unique architecture of the HPE Alletra Storage MP platform on which the X10000 is built.
Cyberthreat mitigation and data privacy enhancements
The X10000 Release 2.0 introduces enhancements for data security and operational efficiency. The new features include object versioning and S3 object lock-based immutability, both of which are designed to bolster data privacy and protect against cyberthreats such as ransomware. Additionally, support for self-encrypting drives (SED) offers notable efficiency gains and cost savings by delegating encryption tasks directly to the drive hardware. These advancements ensure that your data remains secure while optimizing performance and reducing operational expenses.
Improved data restoration performance
In addition to the existing option to integrate the HPE StoreOnce VSA with the X10000 for data protection use cases, you will have the option to integrate the data protection accelerator node. Harness flash-based performance at scale for both backup and restore operations, enabling a significant modernization of your legacy backup environment. Replace outdated or legacy data protection infrastructure with this powerful solution, which offers an impressive up to 20x data reduction, reduced network bandwidth requirements, accelerated backup processes, and rapid data restoration with built-in security features enabling swift response to outages and disasters, including ransomware attacks.
As-a-service flexibility
HPE GreenLake Flex provides a new level of convenience and flexibility with the X10000, tailored to fit your business perfectly. With rapid deployment and fully managed services, you can enjoy the efficiency of a solution that scales precisely to your needs and eliminates the challenges of overprovisioning. The HPE GreenLake Flex model offers a flexible pay-per-use option, providing real-time cost visibility and control. This means you can now choose between an upfront purchase or a customized, consumption-based model that adapts to your unique requirements.
Maintaining momentum for AI-ready solutions development
The landscape of data management and storage is rapidly evolving, and ultra-fast object storage with integrated data intelligence services has become a critical necessity to experience the future of AI. In this dynamic environment, addressing the needs of modern data-intensive applications is essential to drive innovation and achieve exceptional business outcomes. HPE Alletra Storage MP X10000 stands out not merely as a storage solution, but as a transformative architecture. It brings together advanced data intelligence features, unparalleled performance at scale, and simplified management to usher in a new era of efficiency and operational excellence for generative AI, LLMs, analytics, and modern data protection. With HPE Alletra Storage MP X10000 Release 2.0, you can elevate your data strategy and empower your organization to thrive in the competitive digital age.
