Worried about ransomware? Take these steps to defend your data and apps
Ransomware has become a lucrative business for criminal organizations. Take steps now to protect your data in the new threat landscape and prepare your business to get up and running again quickly after an attack.
Data protection is a crucial line of defense against ransomware. Secure backups let you roll back in time to recover applications and data before the point of ransomware infection.
In his CIO article on the topic, Avi Raichel explains how modern data protection as-a-service solutions not only make your infrastructure more resilient, they can also deliver a speedy return on investment. He explores seven best practices that mitigate the risks of ransomware attacks and set your business up for quick recovery.
- Use both disaster recovery and backup solutions. Organizations using both disaster recovery (DR) and backup solutions are able to remediate risks and become operational much faster after an incident.
- Test your solution. You likely have data protection set up – but have you tested it to learn how quickly you can get back up and running if an attack should occur?
- Completely isolate backup data. Immutable backups keep data out of reach, effectively erecting a wall against ransomware attacks.
- Improve your RPOs. If you’re looking to reduce data loss, consider increasing data protection frequency for better recovery point objectives (RPOs).
- Speed up your RTOs. Faster recovery time objectives (RTOs) mean faster recovery. The longer your business waits to resume operations, the greater the damages.
- Add an air gapped data protection solution. One of the challenges of on-premises data protection solutions is that they are exposed to the same ransomware threat as the rest of your data center. You can avoid this trap with air-gapped backup solutions.
- Set up on-demand sandboxes. This is where HPE InfoSight really shines and can bring you the detailed information you need to make management decisions.
In case of a cyberattack, HPE Backup and Recovery Service and DR offerings from Zerto, a Hewlett Packard Enterprise company, can provide predictable and rapid recovery, minimize system downtime, business disruptions, and revenue loss.
