Alletra dHCI and Vmware upgrade to 8.x version

Hi,

My Alletra dHCI just came with Vmware 7.x version. No I want to upgrade everything to Vmware 8.x. As I can see, it is possible to upgrade hosts from vCenter plugin UI to 8.x version. But, as I can understand, I need to upgrade vCenter to 8.x version at first (manually). So my question is - does HPE has some instructions how to do that? I know how to upgrade vCenter from Vmware perspective, but maybe there are some additional steps which need to be done from HPE side after Vmware vCenter upgrade will finish.

And one more thing. I saw info, in this forum, that for one click update Vmware Enterprise Plus is needed. Can someone clarify why? So if I have Standard or Essential Plus editions, am I out of the scope?

I do not understand, how are these links related to my question?

First of all, the links aren't related. Someone added an AI (Artificial Idiot) system.

Now to matters at hand:

1. There are no additional steps after upgrading VMware vCenter. Update vCenter as you always have.

2. Enterprise-Plus: Until now, the dHCI Single Click Update requires DRS to automatically move VMs as it prepares to put a host into Maintenance Mode.
NimOS 6.1.2.0 and later allow dHCI Single Click Update without DRS. The Update process will pause before starting on a server while the sysadmin manually migrates VMs around the cluster.
At the time of this writing, 6.1.2.100 is "GAC" (General Availability Candidate). Consider if a GAC version of the firmware is suitable or if you need to wait for a GA (General Availability) version.

For further information see the Validated Configuration Matrix at InfoSight: Select dHCI Single Click Update Catalogs.

Re: Query: Alletra dHCI and Vmware upgrade to 8.x version

Hi,

Thank you for your answer. What I'm unclear with vCenter upgrade is that I don't know if the ordinary vCenter upgrade will be enough? Do I need to do some specific steps after vcenter upgrade lice plugin update, something else?

Oh, and one more thing. Is the Alletra dHCI solution compatible with Essentials Plus license? Docs are saying that Standard version is a minimum.

Hi

you do a regular vcenter update and when you finish go to your

Nimble GUI and check the plug-in and do an update if required.

I agree with Sheldon I wish HPE would stop these AI answers as they are

usually not related and mislead..

I think it would be more useful of the One-click update allowed you to operate DRS in Partially Automated mode.  Having DRS completely disabled during OCU would cause other issues in my instance.

I need to be able to control the process more manually - because we use Zerto for off-site replication.  If VMs are automatically moved to a host after it's brought out of maintenance mode too quickly, the VRA on the target host may not yet be fully operational, and cause VPG's to go into full delta-sync mode, which can take ages for large VM's, putting the RPO out for extended periods (days even).
