Transceiver compatibility issues
According to the literature from HP the J8177C transceiver is supported by the 2620 series and 2610 series switches. However this is not the case - I have tested this with different J8177C transceiver in these models and the transceiver does not come online. The switches I have tested with have the latest firmware installed. This is causing issues as we needed more 1GB copper ports on these switches, we thought this transceiver would be the ideal solution however it seems its not compatible. Does HP bother to test its own equipment before stating that its compatible?????

Re: Transceiver compatibility issues
There is a huge problem with counterfit transceivers in the wild. The US list price for that transceiver is $275. I would think if you got it for a significantly lower price, then you may have a counterfit product. I always recommend buying from reputible resellers / distributors.

Re: Transceiver compatibility issues
These transcievers were purchased from an official UK HP Platinum partner. These are 100% genuine HP products.

Re: Transceiver compatibility issues
Can you share the output of "show interfaces transceiver" and "show interfaces brief"?

Re: Transceiver compatibility issues
According to the output, there is no link on any port including port 27. Is there a cable plugged into port 27? Does the log "log -r" indicate anything interesting? Those SFPs only link at Gig speeds except certain circumstances where it will link at 100Mb if configured to do so. Since nothing is connected to the switch a loop won't matter, try plugging a cable into the SFP on port 27 into port 25 or 26 and see if a link comes up (show interfaces brief or link lights). I assume it will. If it does, what happens when you connect port 27 to another gig capable device?

Re: Transceiver compatibility issues
The output you see is while the port is plugged into another live port. There is nothing in the log. This has been tried with a 2620 and a 2610 x24 port switch and a 2610 x48 port switch, all on different ports and connecting to different live ports. Also different transceivers have been tried, they all do the same thing.

Re: Transceiver compatibility issues
What is on the other end of the cable? Try plugging a cable from port 27 into port 26.

Re: Transceiver compatibility issues
OK seems it works if you plug it into a gig capable device. That's fine then as we need to run gig wireless points from the ports. Seems the transceiver does not have the capability to run at 100 meg

Re: Transceiver compatibility issues
Yes, it is designed to run at Gig. That said, on some devices you can force it to link at 100Mb by setting the speed on the interface to "auto-100" but I am not sure if that works on the 26xx series switches.
