Armada1590, OS questions
Hello All,
I'm knew here and I've just gotten a second hand Armada 1590, very very good shape, first laptop. It has 166 CPU, 80 mgs RAM, 2.1 Gig HDD, 33.6 modem, floppy and CD ROM, running Win 95. I'm having trouble getting any updates or patches whether from Compaq or Microsoft as the computer won't stay online for more than 5 to 10 minutes at a time. I'm wondering if you think that upgrading the OS might help this? I have disks for ME and W2K. When I can get online I get errors on every page telling me that something is wrong with the jscript on that page and that msncomv8 has something to do with it. What ever in the world that means. I just have a sneaking suspision that it's the old Win 95 that just can't handle todays web pages. I've read another post about a 1590 where it was suggested that W2K be used but isn't that kind of pushing the envelope? From what I understand W2K needs about 2 gig of HDD space. I don't understand alot about computers, better and taking them apart and putting them back together than with software. I would really appreciate some help and some opinions. I'm seriously considering going ahead and upgrading to ME. Any help or suggestions would be great!! Thanks, Jan

Re: Armada1590, OS questions
I would suggest that you make sure that the drivers are available for whatever OS you plan to install on that computer as it??s not given that the drivers for i.e. Win2000 exist on hardware that old.
You could probably run windows 2000 on it but I think it would slow it down dramatically so personally i wouldnt go higher than win98 (maybe ME though I have never heard good things about that one).
Best regards,
Daniel F.
