Excel files on Server crash
I have an Armada M700.
I have no hardware problems with it.
It runs windows NT4.0 Sp 6.
MS Office 2000 is running SP 3.
However whenever one opens any excel document on the server it crashes. Dr. Watson thing!!
On machines that it doesnt close.. it takes upto 10 minutes to open or just show what has been written on it, copied, pasted or just to calculate a formular.
Any help
(For Jeff)

Re: Excel files on Server crash
Winnie:
I would go here: http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/Armada/us/locate/7_1009.html
and download/install whatever seems appropriste but especially BIOS, network (NIC), and perhaps, hard disk drive firmware. I would be somewhat concerned about heat in your system as well. I just read a post that implies there may be known (design?) problems with M700 cooling.

Winnie:
Typically, server-based files are accessed using a mapped drive letter or a URL. Whichever you're using, try the other to see if there is amy effect.

Re: Excel files on Server crash
The other thing to test, is a permissions based problem. As a test, do the following:
Set permissions on the share/file as Full Control. OR.....
Access the excel file by an entity that is in the local Admin's group on the server.
If EITHER of the above suggestions clear up the problem, then you need to look at re-working the access permissions to the server files.
Excel may give the same generic c000005 error if it can't create it temp file.
