Re: installing Windows XP HELP!!!

Hi,
CD-ROM is a bootable?
Window XP don't use FAT32 and cannot install from CD.

Alex:

Are you able to boot from the WINXP CD? If not, go into BIOS setup and set the CDRW drive first in the boot sequence and retry.

If all else fails, there's also a collection of boot-disk images here:

...but then again you probably need the CD drive working unless installing via the network...

Re: installing Windows XP HELP!!!

Hi Alex,

Well, I think you have realised the mistake.
The native partition for WIN 98 and WIN 98SE if FAT32. Conversely, WIN XP goes with NTSC only and WIN 2000 would accept FAT32 or NTSC alternatively.

Now the question is how to re-format from a corrupted system. This mostly depends on the BIOS ability in identifying one optical disk at least (CDROM or Floppy drive). Let's present it like this:

1- Get into the BIOS, short-repeatedly pressing F10(probably) while a small bar starts blicking on the screen. Scroll to the boot-sequence and fix it to A, D, C or D, A, C.

2- If your XP Install-CD is not booting-capable, ask a friend running the same OS to create a boot-disk for you (CD or floppy) out of his proper system.

3- Insert the boot-disk, restart your system and complete a clean-install procedure. FDISK the HD as to create a single partition + Format the HD under NTSC.

4- Install WIN XP when the HD is ready to host this OS.

Alain.
