PCI Parity Error Message

PCI Parity Error Message

Hello, All.

For the past month, my Presario laptop, model 12XL3, has occasionally frozen then blinked out to a black screen when I've been online.

After the second time I noticed extremely tiny blue letters in the far left top corner on the screen as follows:

PCI Parity Error on Bus/Device/Function 0000h
PCI Parity Error on Bus/Device/Function 0008h

I am in an A+ prep course and my instructor assumed it could be from spyware creating a conflict. I ran Spybot, cleared out Xupiter. For the next week it was fine then blip! It happened again.

Fortunately, I purchased an extended warrenty, so I phoned HP's tech support line. The very helpful young man assured me it wasn't from a virus or spyware but most likely was a software conflict. I un-checked the files as instructed and again, for a week or so, things were fine. Then, blip!

I've had 4 instances so far. I am calling tech support again. However, I wanted to put this on the forum and get feedback from others; maybe you've encountered this or know how to resolve the issue.

many thanks, C Brown

Re: PCI Parity Error Message

What a coincedence, it just happened again.

I knew there might be details I left out so here they are:

first, usually when I try to log on to another site then it shows the "blue screen of death", twice, error on these addresses -
OE: 0028: DOB7FFF5
OD: 0246: 014F47FB

Ctl-Alt-Del take you to the next blue screen, then seemingly to the Desktop for about 5 seconds before it turns black with the tiny blue PCI Parity Error messages mentioned before. While the Desktop is displayed the keys are locked up.

That's all I know, perhaps someone's seen this before? Thanks in advance, C Brown

Re: PCI Parity Error Message

Some of the "0E" errors are related to video drivers and or conflicts.

The parity error message can come from almost ANY PCI device, and even from system memory.

We need the complete error message to narrow down WHICH device could be causing the problems.

One other thought, is to visit the Windows Update site to see if there have been critical patches or driver updates issued.

Also, you can visit http:/www.memtest86.com and download an ISO image that will create a bootable CD to test your system memory.
