The characters can not be seen in Clip Art

I don't see the the different layouts on word XP clip art. The background is all grayed out. I can click them and write on the clip art. But, I couldn't see the different layouts. I reinstalled the full version of office XP, but the problem couldn't be resolved. Please advise.
