bl60p does not recognize external dvd

I am trying to install an o/s onto a bl60p. I could not get it to install over the lan, it always stopped at booting kernel.
I attached an external hp dvd840 drive to the usb01 connection but when I am in the efi, it does not recognize the device.
When I run connect it gives me an error:
exit status code: Not Found which I think is referring to the cdrom
I tried connect 14 which also gives the same error. Is there anyway to get around this and get an o/s on this system?

I would try from EFI:

> reconnect -r
> map -r

Check if you have a supported USB dvd drive.

You are probably right. The dvd that I am using is too new for this old of a server. It is an HP DVD840 which is not in the very short list that you linked too.
