Re: ie8 crashing with remote console

How do I add 8,000+ ilo IP addresses to the trusted intranet sites? Why doesn't ilo2 1.80 not fix the IE 8 problems?

IE8 has been around for a decent amount of time in my opinion...let's go HP!

Re: ie8 crashing with remote console

^^ You could add them via registry entry under HKEY_Current_User; that's where those settings would be placed. Might have to create a script or something to interval through the IP's if you have a range or if you have a list, export it to a file and merge it in.

None the less, I agree with you - come on HP; W7 is out and comes with IE8. Get on the ball!

Even with the tricks described here, I still have some issues time to time but I've boiled that down to other Java required applets that I have running during an iLO session. iLO is very picky with Java and that's annoying on its own.

Re: ie8 crashing with remote console

I just realized that now (with the iLO added under local sites), when I click Integrated Manager link IE opens a new tab but does nothing with it. Instead, it forwards the main page to the iLO login.

iLO and IE8 simply do not work together.

Re: ie8 crashing with remote console

I believe this has to do with network connectivity issues and iLO SSO. I noticed this when I installed a new blade and did not setup VC and decided to start using iLO on my laptop instead of my admin console which is in the same subnet and behind the same firewall. When I tried logging into iLO from my laptop which is in a different subnet and outside of our firewall I was not able to. However I could connect to any blade iLO that had VC enabled using IE8 without issue.

Re: ie8 crashing with remote console

I can only agree.
The ILO hangs are most inconvienient. It seems not all functions are supported with Firefox although I do use Firefox quite successfully. (Ver 3.0.15 I think)
Considering IE8 was first released as a Beta approx. 16 months ago and released to production over 6 months ago HP have had enough time to resolve these issues.
Dell and IBM don't suffer these issues. (They may suffer many others but not this)
Please HP sort it out. We do pay for the right to use this.. That would be that Advanced license we purchase.. It's not free nor is it cheap.

Re: ie8 crashing with remote console

I think I am missing something here!

Let me see - Microsoft releases a new version of software which doesn't work well with other pre-existing software (which by the way, work fine with the older version), and your conclusion is that the people who own the "pre-existing" software have to jump around to fix the problems imposed on them by microsoft ??????

Let's say that you own a house at the end of a perfectly servicable road. Then along comes the council and tells you that they are going to upgrade your road. Fine you say, but when they are done, the road actually is now 200 yards to your right. Is it now your responsibility to move your house, or should the council fix the road.

The onus in both cases it on the person making the change (i.e. producing the "Upgrade") to ensure that they conform to the previous situation.

Ever heard of "First! Do no harm."

Re: ie8 crashing with remote console

Just to add fuel to the fire here, I have found that running ILO remote console as a Java applet is the only one that works.

Re: ie8 crashing with remote console

What I have found to work is that if you set Compatibility Mode to Always On. It will work.
Page > Compatibility View Settings > Display all websites in Compatibility View.

Windows 2008 R2 comes with IE8. All other versions are unsupported and to my understanding won't downgrade or install.

And now, just to add to the flame, if you build your interface to only work with one browser (IE ActiveX) then you should be responsible to keeping it up to date. Just the same as when the councle say's they are going to redo the road, you should check out the zoning plans. Microsoft did say they were making many changes and compatibility maybe an issue.
There are alternatives such as Java, HTML5/JS, and Flash. Which also allow for larger browser markets and reduced incompatibilty.

Re: ie8 crashing with remote console

Let me finish that "Work around".
When you turn Compatibility to always on.
It works, better. But still crashes at some points. Trick I learned is DON'T move the window that opens up until it is completely loaded.
As I said, it worked for me, but it is so troublesome that I just started using a system with IE6.

An alternative solution was to try virtualized browser Spoon, it didn't work in my Windows 2008 R2. The only other alternative is to run a full VM on hyper-v, but that's for another day.

You could try this for your Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 systems you will probably have better luck.

Re: ie8 crashing with remote console

basic rules of application/prog/ updates

only change or update your application/prog in this case the browser if it coexists and works fine with the other applications that are absolutely required , otherwise do not make the change

its actually quite easy .. when you get the hang of it...

NB this logic can be applied for other apps too.

Re: ie8 crashing with remote console

Well, it is a shame. HP does not care they are too big to care. I have both Dell and HP. No problems with Dell in this regards.
I had to use a VM XP just to be able to use ILO. How unprofessional!
I do not know what are they HP thinking? The world will stop at IE6 and XP? Or maybe the world will go back to IE6 and XP. Somemake milions at thet company but they can not come up with a simplest conclusion. I am usin ILO for 3 yeare now and I have problem for 3 years. They owe me serious money for the work in wain, flustration and disapointment they have created . Bad product and bad company. rating it from 1-5 is 2.5. I am sorry for them.

Re: ie8 crashing with remote console

Here is a solution that I have found to work.

Set your iLO servers to be in Local intranet Zone.

Tools > Internet Option > Security

Select "Local intranet"
Click "Sites"

Add url. (example: https://192.168.4.*)
If us use a asterisk "*", this will allow for all IPs in that subnet.

(See Attached)

With this solution, older versions didn't work as reliable as newer ones.
V1.60 didn't work the first time, but did subsequent attempts.
V1.80 and V1.81 work without much trouble.

Re: ie8 crashing with remote console

I am having this same problem as well.

How it all started:
- Everything worked on Windows Server 2008 Standard SP1 64 bit.
- In order to resolve HP SIM issues that the HP Helpdesk said they could not figure out, but that might be fixed by upgrading to the newest version of Altiris, I had to upgrade to Altiris 6.9. To upgrade to Altiris 6.9 I had to install 4 more GB of RAM.
- During the upgrade to Altiris 6.9, the OS became corrupted and I had to completely reinstall the server. When reinstalling, I decided to upgrade to Server 2008 R2 Enterprise SP2 64 bit.
- Turns out the Insight Software 6.2 (even though their documentation say it is supported http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c02537423/c02537423.pdf) does not like this version. It will not install.
- Back to the drawing board
- I then installed Server 2008 Enterprise SP2 64 bit

Where I am at now:
- In Windows Server 2008 Enterprise SP2 64 bit, the Integrated Remote Console no longer works.
- On other servers, (Windows 2003 any version and both 32bit or 64bit) it works fine. On my other Server 2008 R2 Enterprise SP2 64 bit server, it works fine.
- All my other servers have IE8 and NONE of them have problems accessing the IRC.
- I have gone through EVERY IE8 setting. The IE8 settings are not the issue.
- I have servers that have Java installed and not installed. Java is NOT the issue.
- Firefox cannot be used as when I loaded it and tried to access the IRC, I got the error Microsoft Internet Explorer is REQUIRED to run Integrated Remote Console. Lovely.
- Now that Windows Server 2008 Enterprise SP2 64 bit is loaded and the Insight Software is loaded, I tried to upgrade to Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise SP2 64 bit. Hoping that this around the block installation will work and that all of my HP software is still functioning at the end of the day.

Result?
- The Integrated Remote Console STILL DOES NOT WORK!
- Help desk is useless and they have pointed me to Microsoft to resolve the issue.

Re: ie8 crashing with remote console

Further:

To help save everyone else out there some time (and prevent some head banging against the wall), here are the other solutions you will find out there.

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c01663223
1. To ensure that IRC functions properly with Internet Explorer 8 (IE8), upgrade to Integrated Lights-Out 2 (iLO 2) Firmware Version 2.01 (or later).
2. Perform the following steps to obtain the latest iLO 2 firmware version:
a. Click on the following URL: http://www.hp.com/support/iLO2
b. Select the appropriate operating system.
c. Click on Firmware - Lights-Out Management.
d. Locate Firmware Version 2.01 (or later) and then choose the desired firmware upgrade method.
3. Check. Did not fix it. (I have the highest version of iLO 2 available for my servers v2.05)

http://blog.vmpros.nl/2009/11/17/microsoft-connection-problems-by-opening-iloilo2-using-internet-explorer-8/
1. As a workaround, the iLO/iLO2 IP address or DNS name can be added to the Intranet Explorer 8 Local Intranet zone that lists Intranet websites.
2. Perform the following steps to add the DNS website name or IP address:
a. In Internet Explorer 8 click on Tools->Internet Options and the Internet Options pop-up will be displayed.
b.Click on the Security Tab.
c. Select the Local Intranet icon and click on the Sites button to the right and the Local Intranet pop-up will be displayed.
d. Click on Advanced and add the iLO/iLO2 IP address or DNS name into the blank text box and add the website to the local Intranet zone.
e. After adding the website, click on Close to save the website in the zone.
3. After adding the iLO/iLO2 IP address or DNS name in the Internet Explorer 8 local Intranet zone, all iLO/iLO2 clients will connect as expected.
4. Check. Did not fix it.

http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/servers/management/ilobest-practice.html
1. Log into iLO 2
2. Type https://ilo_name/dvc.cab in the browser address bar
3. The file download dialog box displays. Click Open and save the DVC.DLL file to your local drive
4. Copy the DVC.DLL file to the client system that does not allow ActiveX downloads
5. From this client system, open a command prompt window. Navigate to the directory containing the DVC.DLL file and enter regsvr32 dvc.dll
6. Check. Did not fix it.

My Catch 22

Server 2008 R2 SP1 works well with Integrated Remote Console (IRC), however, you CANNOT load HP Insight Control Management CD 6.2 unless you have an OS with Service Pack 2. Not kidding here. Even if you have 2008 R2 SP1 (currently the only SP for this OS), it says Hey, where is SP2? You cannot continue without SP2, and installation stops. Nor can I run the HP Insight Control Management CD 6.2 UPDATE package.
