P-Class power redundacy

We have 2 power enclosures in each rack, these are the 3 phase power enclosures. We have a number of blades that when you turn them off, and try to power on, it comes up with a red light. If you hold the power button they will power up, the only fault I can see is the system says not enough power, but we don't have many blades in these racks, and we have 2 - 3 phase power supplies, so i can see how it's not getting enough power. We have also seen sometimes if you log on to management module, it says the system has lost redudancy, but the load balancing cable is installed, so i can't see how it can be?

Re: P-Class power redundacy

Hello Koopa,
Updating the firmware(s) resolved the "redundancy lost issue" I had.

Regards.

Re: P-Class power redundacy

do you know which version of firmware fixed the issue, and do you mean the firmware on the blades or on the management modules? You see the problem I have on this site, is that we don't look after the firmware on the devices on our site, they are run by another vendor. But they wont do a firmware upgrade unless I can show them an HP advisory showing them this fixes the issue.

Re: P-Class power redundacy

Hi Koopa,

James is right. As some of us working as support, it happens very often that we must convince someone that firmware should be updated. A lot of people rely on the motto "never touch a running system", but there are some exceptions. Further not every changes in the firmware versions are documented so good to include all fixes/enhancements. Further there can't be advisory for evething that can occur.

As in your case you can show following :

1. The latest Firmware "Revision history" - includes fixes and enhancements of every version :

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=3709945&prodSeriesId=1121598&swItem=MTX-9e0e8e80b2d545eeaa26c38678&prodNameId=3288176&swEnvOID=1005&swLang=8&taskId=135&mode=5

- your issue seems to be addressed in 2.30. However it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to update to 2.40.

2. E.g. following advisories(not directly addressing the issue maybe) :

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&objectID=c01198435

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&objectID=c00774329

3. Why should I update my firmware(Blades are based on the ProLiant architecture) :

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00264524/c00264524.pdf

If you want the issue fixed, you have to do it. That's it

Hope this helps to convince the needed audience that a firmware update is mandatory
