I've a question about the use of port X7 and x8
we have a single c7000 enclosure with 2 flex-10 ethernet module in bay 1&2 .
We have a networking envinroment made of two separate networks with a redundant backbone each .
The question is about the use of port X7 and X8 of each flex-10 module.
Is it possible to use them as uplink to the uplink switches ?
Will the internal link be disabled automatically or can this configuration generate any issue ?
thanks

Re: port x7-x8 use
You can use X7 & X8 as uplinks. As soon as you put an SFP or SFP+ into the port, it disables the internal crosslinks.

Re: port x7-x8 use
In such configuration , x7-x8 used as uplink and staking link broken , how will the two module synchronize ?
Will there be any impact on flex-10 manager functionality ?
thanks

SolutionWhile its technically OK, I have heard from HP Support that disabling BOTH of the cross links (7 and 8) causes the VC Modules to start throwing warnings left and right.
Its best to leave at least 1 of them connected as a cross link.
VC will not participate in any Spanning Tree on the rest of your network, so there isnt any harm in leaving them in place.
PS: There is a management only communication link that allows the config synchronization even if the cross links are turned off.

Re: port x7-x8 use
thanks for the answer to all .
It looks like that it won't harm the functionality tough is not a best practice however .
best regards

Re: port x7-x8 use
Careful, we just had a scenerio where all 16 blades in our enclosure lost all fiber and ethernet connectivity via the VC for around 10 minutes, this plus the fact that we had several virtual host servers running in this enclosure caused quite an issue. Talked with HP and they confirmed what someone mentioned in a previous post.
We had x7 and x8 populated with ethernet modules that were not attached to anything yet. HP had us remove the unused modules and said never to populate both x7 and x8, leave one open for internal horizontal communication.
