Yes, fair call but i"m getting a bit frustrated!
Re positioning, yes they are in the right order relationship-wise. Blade in #1, storage in #2 for example.
Yes, there's an array controller in there. Having taken the top off I see the PCI-E card with two molex SAS cables going to the backplane. If I remove the controller and plug the SB40C in, the chassis doesn't like it.
In all scenarios, the chassis sees the two blades (BL460c and storage) as paired up OK.

Thanks Vijay - as this is all super-old kit bought on eBay, am I still going to be able to raise a support ticket against it as I don't have a support contract.
