The system management homepage is reporting the "smart array 6i accelerator battery failed". What issue will this component failure cause, reduced read/write performance?
I have installed the latest proliant support pack, as I am aware this can be mis-reported by older firmwares, but the problem is still there. HP are sending a replacement part, I am assuming this is the "Smart Array 6i 128-MB Battery Backed Write Cache Enabler" described in the maintenance and service guide?

Solution
This is a very common fault on servers that are becoming 2-3 years as a batteries only can be charged a certain number of times..
As it's a cache it reduces the read/write performance as you say.
And if you reported the battery to HP they will send you a new one.. Smart Array 6i 128-MB Battery Backed Write Cache Enabler
