Compaq 2500 network bridge and ICS
I'm trying to share an internet connection from a Win2000 host onto my Compaq 2500 laptop, running XP Pro with no luck. Every help file or diagnostic shows editing the properties of the LAN card. I have it 'bridged' to a network bridge, so this doesn't apply. Any suggestions? My network is fine (I can see shared drives/printers on the network) but cannot get the internet. I'm sharing a Direcway satellite, and automatically detecting settings on the client (laptop w/ XP) Was working before I edited something via a "remote" dialer application. I'm at a loss. Thanks in advance:

Re: Compaq 2500 network bridge and ICS
Ok this should be no problem, first of all clear all the settings you have set, remove the bridging and so on.
Set your internet connection so its shared, now in Admin Tool Services make sure the 'Internet Connection Sharing' service is started and running (you may need to change it to automatic so it starts every time). Now take the DNS servers that your internet connection use, to find these run command from 'Run' abd type command, or go to accessories Command Prompt. and type ipconfig/all while connected, it will give you your network card and you internet connection IP/DNS servers. now note them down (should be 2) and you internal LAN IP. Now on the XP system go to TCP/IP properties, and set the default gateway to the 2k computers IP, fill in the DNS servers, now go to IE and you set 'LAN settings' to Automaticly detect settings, now you should be able accesss the internet on your XP computer.
