Go Start/help and search for direct cable connection - there are step by step instructions there.

Re: desktop pc to laptop via direct parallel

Where did you get the cable from - are you certain that it's the correct cable? I'm assuming that you have configured both PC's correctly - I vaguely remember that one has to be a host and the other a client - I haven't used a direct cable connection since the mid '90's - ethernet is so much faster.

Re: desktop pc to laptop via direct parallel

Vin,

We don't seem to be on the same page. Let me try again.

You can use direct cable connection to connect your laptop to your desktop without a network card. For it to work you must have a special cable connecting either the parallel ports or the serial ports on the two computers to one another, AND you must configure the utility correctly.

Just to make it clear - the cable EITHER goes from the laptop parallel port to the desktop parallel port OR from the laptop serial port to the desktop serial port - you cannot connect from the serial port on one computer to the parallel port of the other.

1) Do you have the special cable?
2) Where did you get the cable from?
3) Are you configuring one computer to be the host and the other the client?
