Re: HP by BT Software v3C killed my BT card?!

HP by BT Software v3C killed my BT card?!

After installing XP SP2, I wanted to upgrade the Bluetooth in my HP X1000 notebook to the latest HP BT software v3C.

So the software installs ok but the driver doesn't. Right now, the BT software doesn't seem to recognize the BT card!! When I click on the BT icon, it says "BT device not found!!!"

Manually updating the driver in Device Manager doesn't work too!!! The driver just doesn't want to install!

By the way, I notice the HP software does a firmware upgrade of my BT device during installation. I saw the firmware dialog update briefly but there was no indication on whether the firmware was successful. I hope the firmware update didn't fail on mine that's why I have a messed up card now.

I have tried uninstalling the BT software, but for the subsequent trials, the firmware upgrade is not running successful anymore. This could mean two things, one is the first firmware upgrade was successful so the subsequent install would fail the upgrade, the second possibility is that the first firmware upgrade somehow corrupted my card?

SO what do I do now? Is this a SP2 issue or my procedure is wrong, and how do I tell if my card is corrupted by the firmware upgrade?

Is there a way to flash the firmware manually?

Re: HP by BT Software v3C killed my BT card?!

Hi, thanks for the links.

But the second link deals with connecting BT devices, which is non-applicable in my case, because the driver itself doesn't want to install.

So the first link has one item that is applicable, about BT drivers. I deleted the relevant register entry at , but unfortunately it is still the same :(

Any more ideas? Do I have to resort to a fresh format now? I have so much apps configured to my notebook a reformat will be devastating.

Re: HP by BT Software v3C killed my BT card?!

More specifically, when doing a manual install of BT drivers from Device Manager, I get the following message:

"There was a problem installing this hardware: Bluetooth by hp.

An error occurred during the installation of the device.

A Service installation section in this INF is invalid."

Am I screwed? Is my BT device toasted? Could it have been a failed firmware upgrade that resulted in this? Do I have a faulty version of SP2? (Build 2699,xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158)?

Re: HP by BT Software v3C killed my BT card?!

Unfortunately, after doing a fresh install of XP SP1 and SP2, I am still getting the following error message while installing the latest HP BT v3C. The error happens exactly at the point when the installer is about to flash the firmware.

[btdfuapp]
DFU Start failed: Could not connect to device

As a result, although the Bluetooth software gets installed, but the BT icon just shows "BT Device Not Found."

If I try updating the Bluetooth by hp in Device Manager manually, it will fail too as I get this message:

"There was a problem installing this hardware: Bluetooth by hp.
An error occurred during the installation of the device.
A Service installation section in this INF is invalid."

What do the error messages mean, do I have a card that has been fried? If this is the case, then the HP BT v3C software is definitely bad on certain machines, just beware of this before you install.

Does anyone know if this is covered by warranty? Is there a way to rescue my BT card? How do I confirm that the firmware is corrupted? How come the BT by HP card is still being detected by Windows but cannot be installed?

So many questions but I don't know where to direct them.

Re: HP by BT Software v3C killed my BT card?!

Hi OP,
be patient and sleep a night before format!

I try to answer to all questions.
1) You have installed SP2; before of this upgrade, your BT did work fine? If yes you can uninstall SP2 and search all documentation about your problem.
2) Warranty: I don't known laws in your country; here in Italy warranty is valid for two years since sell. You can contact you HP vendor.

Because your problem still remain, for furthermore help you must post:
a) Brand & model of your PC (I've seen XP1000 is a family of NB)
b) Brand & model of BT card.
c) BIOS version.
d) BT driver version.

Don't worry

Re: HP by BT Software v3C killed my BT card?!

Unfortunately, I have reformatted my drive already and the same problem remains in SP1 or SP2, so it is not Microsoft's problem.

I think it must be a bad software made by HP, because there is another guy reporting this same problem on the x1000forums.com

For a problem as serious as this, I think there is a high possibility of bad firmware upgrade performed by the software. How could HP do this to customers? I checked the local price today of a new BT card, it is at US170-180 right now, all of a sudden a huge jump in price!!

There are more users reporting the same problem that I am having now on another forum.

Before this turns into a mass recall, please do something quick, HP!

Re: HP by BT Software v3C killed my BT card?!

Dear HP, it is starting to be Tuesday already, should I send in my card? Or should I wait for you to release a "rescue" software/firmware update for this latest debacle?

I just need an answer.

Please see the thread at x1000forums mentioned a few replies back for a possible solution. It's fairly far into the discussion, look at page 4 and 5 of the discussion.

Re: HP by BT Software v3C killed my BT card?!

NOTE: IF YOU RAN SP28271 AND YOUR DEVICE IS STUCK "IN BETWEEN" USB MODE, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RUN THE FIRMWARE UPGRADE UTILITY. IN THAT CASE PLEASE CONTACT HP SERVICE.

HOWEVER, IF YOUR DEVICE IS STUCK "IN DFU MODE", YOU MAY BE ABLE TO RECOVER YOUR MODULE.

FIRST DETERMINE IF YOU ARE IN DFU MODE

WINDOWS XP SP1:
1. Select Start > Run> Type Regedit, Selelct OK.

2. Double click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE> SYSTEM> CurrentControlSet> ENUM> USB

3. Verify if the following USB device ID is located in the registry: VID_049f&PID_0036

WINDOWS XP SP2:
Note: You can use the registry as above for SP1 or Device Manager

DEVICE MANAGER
1. Select Start > Control Panel> Double Click System Icon> Hardware Tab> Device Manager> Bluetooth Devices>

2. Double click Bluetooth by hp> Driver> Driver Details

3. Verify if the following USB device ID is associated With the driver:VID_049f&PID_0036

RUN THE FIRMWARE UPGRADE TOOL
Note: when the SP28271 softpaq was ran, the self extracting executable extracted the contents to the local drive under C:\SWSETUP\SP28271A. The hp-t19a.dfu file is located under the \Svcpack subfolder.

The Bluetooth software must be installed on the system in order to perform this proceedure. If you have ran SP28271 and the Bluetooth software is still installed on the notebook, or if you have re-installed the BTW1.4 stack perform the following:

WARNING: DO NOT ABORT THE FIRMWARE UPGRADE PROCESS. THE UPGRADE MAY TAKE SEVERAL MINUTES.

1. Select Start> My Computer> Local Disk (C:)> Program Files> Widcomm> Bluetooth Software> Bin.

2. Double click the btdfuapp.exe file to launch the Firmware Upgrade Utility.

3. Select Browse and point to the
hp-t19a.dfu file and select Open.

4. Select Start to begin the firmware upload process.

5. Once the upgrade has completed, select OK, then exit to close the firmware upgrade tool.

Let me know if this was helpful.

As you can see, the firmware upgrade process is rather tedious. Which is why we automated it to facilitate this effort for our customers. We are truly sorry about the inconvenience this has caused.

Please pass this information on to other forums regarding this issue.

Regards,
td

Re: HP by BT Software v3C killed my BT card?!

Dear Thoms Dukes,

assuming you are an HP representative:

I just experienced a failed flash during an attempted upgrade of the Bluetooth software. A manual call of the Widcomm flasher didn't produce any results so I am assuming I have to send my BT card back to HP.

Can you supply me with a reference for the HP support hotline to ensure a speedy process? I am fearing that they will be asking me to send in the NX7000 (instead of just the BT card).

Thank you for your assistance.

With kind regards,

Re: HP by BT Software v3C killed my BT card?!

Hello All
I ve recently bought a new hard drive for a HP Pavillion zx5051EA and after install I downloaded HP s latest drivers, including the Bluetooth driver, and it happened the samething, WindowsXP detects my Bluetooth ("bluettoth by HP"), but after installing the drivers as I click on either the Desktop Icon or the System Tray Icon it says "device not found".
I ve try everything as you,a clean install of WindowsXP, a manual install of the drivers, running the driver just after installing WindowsXP, manual install of the drivers to bypass Firmware Upgrade, installing an driver older version I had that worked on my previous Windows format, and at last to use HP System Recovery CD....

Nothing Works !!!

It keeps saying "bluetooth by HP" and after any driver installation once you click on any icon the same message "device not found, make sure the device it├В┬┤s active" and I m sure its active

I m going to HP Tecnical Center next Monday, but if anyone as a suggestion please post it.

Thanks in advance
(Portugal here, so please forgive any spelling mistakes)

Re: HP by BT Software v3C killed my BT card?!

Because I was sure the problem was the firmware version and not a driver version, I went searching for a older verion of de firmware. The new firmware file is named "hp-t19a.dfu". On the HP driver site of the nx7010 there was no older version, but on de nc4000 site I found and older firmware named "hp-t11.dfu" in driver 1.01B. It came with SP25720.exe located at http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/hpcpqnk/us/download/20738.html

Because the nx7010 and the nc4000 have the same WLAN/Bluetooth module I thought it sould work. And I was right, after starting "C:\Program Files\WIDCOMM\Bluetooth Software\bin\btdfuapp.exe" and selecting the older firmware file "hp-t11.dfu" I have no problem anymore. I now work with driver version 3.00E and Firmware hp-t11.dfu for 2 weeks now and not one time the bluetooth module failed. I am very happy I solved my problem. I Hope you guy have the same luck.

Victor.

Re: HP by BT Software v3C killed my BT card?!

I have a similar situation to the people in this thread. The firmware did not upload properly and I have used the advice by Thoms Dukes (earlier in this thread) and discovered that my bluetooth device is now in 'DFU mode'. Device manager finds it when I switch it on, but puts a yellow mark against it. I cannot install any drivers. The BT icon says 'Device not found'

I have tried maually installing the firmware using the btdfuapp.exe, but I keep getting 'DFU Start failed: Could not connect to device'.

Very frustrating as I did not even want the firmware upgraded! I have a new nc4010 notebook and the bluetooth module is apparently integrated.

Is there another tool/method I can use to flash the firmware? Or do I need to replace the module and if so, how do I do that?
