Hp Pavilion x1963 with XP trying to install WPD11 PCI Card

When ever I install the WPD11 PCI wireless network card adaptor (with or with out the WPC11)and install the drivers, within about 30secs it locks the computer up.
I've moved it from slot to slot, taken out all other cards still locks up. I have been able (once) to see that it is installing on IRQ18.
it doesn't give me time to do much else. HP and Linksys say it should work. any help out there. thanks in advance
