NC4010 wireless card query

I wanted to get an internal wireless card for my NC4010 and so I purchased a mini-PCI card off a friend only to find out it's not allowed in my laptop because it's not "approved" or something.

Firstly, this is strange since it's an Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG which is supported in some HP models (not NC4010 it seems) which leads me to believe it is approved, just not in my laptop for some reason. Can I get this to work (without messing with the raw data of the BIOS which I've seen in possible)

Secondly, if I can't use this, can I just buy any Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 or 2200 to put in it? I've seen it listed as "2100 3B" in the NC4010 manual, which I can't find anywhere, just "2100". Also I found on the site mention that the 2200BG also works in the NC4010, is this true?* Neither the 2100 or 2200BG are too expensive... or do they have to be sourced through HP to work properly?

How frustrating - this doesn't happen when you buy a PCI wireless card or a PCMCIA one... what a load of locked-in nonsense!
