Saving configuration file to access point

Help: When I connect your access point to my server with a crossover cable my dhcp server will assign a ip address but when I try to save my configuration to the access point it tells me that the wl400 is off line but it is up and running? Please reply as I am trying to get this setup for a dedication of a wireless computer lab. Thanks
