TX1000 Wireless Problem

Just to let everyone know that the non-functioning wireless problem also affects other models of HP laptops.

I have a TX1110ca with an AMD motherboard and my wireless stopped functioning on 26 Dec. Went through all the threads, etc, updated the bios and anything else I could find to no avail. Next morning when I turned my laptop on I had the blue wireless light. Next day it was gone again and not seen since.

Have not yet tried the fruitless interaction with HP support since it is the holidays but will next week. I am not hopeful for a solution seeing as there seems to be a lack of a solution after reading through all the threads here.

BTW, I know Compaq is now owned by HP but in the last 8 years with a couple of Compaq laptops of my own and a couple for work I had very little problems and any problem that did show up was taken care of extremely quickly and to my satisfaction.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

I have TX1210us and have exactly the same problem, the wireless just doesn't turn on.. it happen like dec 23 and I bought it in August..

I am kind of worried because there is not a concrete solution for others models of HP and I unfortunately think that it won't be for this one.

Just came by to report this model have exactly the same problem, which is completely frustating.

Cheers, from M├Г┬йxico

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

You can check my post in http://indrajitc.wordpress.com/2008/06/02/wireless-card-not-detected-anymore/

I uninstalled Norton Internet Security from the machine - and the problem went away.

Even afterwards I am sometimes getting the problem - especially after I hibernate the machine - the way I am getting it back is to restart it in "safe mode with networking" (it shows wireless) and restarting it again in normal mode.

Seems some process is running at times which is causing the wifi hardware itself to be invisible (but again, it does not run all the time)?! Sounds crazy, but maybe the technicians need to think it in this way.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

issue: wifi hardware disappearing

HP Pavilion tx1000z CTO NB
purchased march 9 2007
one year warranty
july 28 2008 i unplugged the working laptop from power, carried it to another room, plugged it back into outlet and realized that wifi light switch in front is growing amber and that windows does not see wifi hardware

up until the incident i ran vista sp1, current with all updates; bios F.1E; 2.00 A NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 Video Driver; Broadcom Wireless LAN Driver for Microsoft Windows Vista 7.00 E; HP Wireless Assistant 3.00 I; NVIDIA nForce Chipset/Network Drivers 5.53 A; Essential System Updates for Microsoft Windows Vista 2.00.

last windows update - 7/25; nothing in the event log.

the laptop was in light use, mostly as email/music/multimedia/word processing for 3-4 hrs a day. it always was connected via wifi. the manual wifi trigger was almost never used.

when the problem happened, i did all the usual steps - reinstalled drivers, flashed bios, unpowered and removed battery, etc. only once the wifi came back up after power down, battery remove for 10 minutes, and then powering back on. no amount of tinkering could bring it back afterward.

booting into linux revealed the same thing - there is no wifi hardware. the wifi switch in front keeps glowing amber.

called support, case 801-427-6116. spent 1 hr 40 minutes; got escalated from frontline (shawn?) to tech support (?) to supervisor (michelle?). according to her, they have no known cases for tx1000, but they do have a known recall for dv6000. note however, that tx1000 is relatively new (i believe my model based on amd cpu became available a month before my purchase), so that if there is a problem that manifests itself 15 months after purchase, we would see the reports starting to trickle in right about now.

the supervisor could do nothing for me, except for usual 600+ for mobo sent to me or 300+ to send in for fixes. so i gave up.

i will purchase a usb wifi card and shop around for another laptop. this was my first brush with hp after 10+ laptops over the years with other manufacturers (i buy for myself, family, friends, and recommend to others), and unless hp does something to change my opinion, it will be the last for a while.

so the only hope is to speak up and report this problem as much as you can. post similar details and call in - they track the number of calls related to a problem, and hopefully once it reaches a certain threshold, they will be forced to act.

if you remain silent, they will never even know there is a problem.

please post links to other posts discussing this. with enough concrete data we should be able to build a case and hold hp responsible. post on your blogs and link to this entry, this way google search will pick this issue up and bubble it to the top.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

Warning, Get it fixed soon and fast. I had same issues, but just let it slide because i didnt use the wifi very much, but now the hwole computer is dead, and I have read elsewhere that that is the progression, from dead wifi to dead computer. I have a tx1120us which is just past warranty, but cant get it fixed vbecause its not a dv6000, although loads of people have the same issues with tx series.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

Hi, Sorry to take so long to continue on with this thread, I couldn't remember my login info ;-)

Anyway, in mid-April I contacted HP about the wireless problem that popped up in Dec, held off doing anything about it because I had work to do. Since the warranty was up at end of April I had to move on it.

I explained to the support person all the stuff I had done (I had followed many of the suggestions in thre forum). She had me do a restore and finally (after a couple of conversasions because of time constraints it took a couple of days) they conceded that it had to be sent in.

I must admit that the service was very good, total turn around including shipping was less than 7 days. Not only did they replace the motherboard but thealso replaced the screen and lid. I didn't have problems with the screen but if they felt compeled to changing it I wasn't going to complain.

Now, this still does not solve the problem of the wireless systems dying. Becaue of the likelyhood of this problem reoccuring I felt I had no choice but to buy an extended warranty for another year. The computer is working fine now but I have lost confidence in it. Everytime I drop a wireless signal I nevously check to see if the wireless light is blue or amber. Although I like the form factor (12.1 screen) I am consisdering selling the laptop and getting something other than HP.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

I am also experiencing the same problem. Broadcom card suddenly missing intermittently. At this point I am 100% sure that this is a hardware issue, but I can't pin point which hardware. Does anyone know if the problem comes from the mother board of the wifi card?

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

The warranty ran out on my TX1000z 2 months ago and HP has not been willing to help me yet. The computer is not responding, display doesn't come up; when I start up computer my hard drive light blinks for about 5 seconds and nothing else. HP recalled other models with the same issues but are saying this model is not affected. Hopefully they will recall soon, but I wont hold my breath. This is my first HP purchase and the last for me as well. I have owned many laptops and this is the most expensive one I have purchased, and the only one that has given me problems.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

Hey Peeps,

I bought my Tx1000 from my friend in HK for a bargain and last weekend the wireless card disappeared.

I spent two weeks trying every trick I could find from all the forums.

This ranged from - trying a system restore, to updating Nivia Graphics card, Flashing BIOS, to entering command prompts to update Wireless SSID recognition.

Two things worked - One slightly the other permanently

The first thing that worked was removing all power and holiding off button for 2 mins - on restarting - the system said new hard ware found installing broadcom drivers. This worked.. and then it disappeared after hibernation.

The second thing was to do a system check and install the broadcom drivers - on doing so - I was given the message - drivers in stalled and wireless card switched on. I have not had any trouble since.

Links attached - NOTE - when installing drivers. The run button only extracts data to the C drive. You have to note the path and run set up from the extracted file.

Hope it works for you guys and girls

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

Hello All,

I'm have the TX1320US model notebook and have encountered the very same wireless issues. The 1st time I discovered the issue I took the same steps that everyone else has tried but still encountered the same problems. I finally called HP and sent in the laptop for repair. After about 1 week I received the laptop back with a repair sheet saying the system board had been replaced. I checked the laptop and discovered the problem still existed. I called HP back and was told they had reason to believe that the technician who worked on my laptop did not repair it at all and that I would have to send the laptop back to be looked at again. Off course I was very upset by this as I wasted 1 week for nothing.

So I sent the laptop back a 2nd time and was done another week. I got the laptop back yesterday and discovered this time that the system board was not replaced but that the Wireless PCA was replaced. So far it appears to be working ok. While looking over the laptop the black case that covers the hard drive area just fell off. I looked and found that the screws appeared to be stripped and the technician just put the cover on without replacing the screws. I called HP again and was told the same story that my laptop had to be sent in again for a 3rd time. This time I told HP that I can't continue to be down while they replace screws that should have been done while the tecnician was repairing the laptop. At this point I lost all respect for HP quality and in the future will look to another PC maker. The level of product and service was well below satisfactory.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

Just to add a bit to this --

I have a tx1000 that's about eight months old. Every once in a while, during heavy bandwidth usage (streaming audio/video on sites such as Pandora and YouTube, or just downloading of large files such as Vista SP1 or XP SP3), the wireless card will disconnect and not find any new networks until the system is rebooted. The light on the front stays blue, but the Vista icon shows a red 'x', and no wireless networks are found. After a reboot, it finds them all again. I contacted HP and they said they'd send a new wireless card, which I'm going to try next.

I also have another tx1000 that a customer brought in recently for a similar problem, except it happened two or three times and then the light turned orange on the front of the system and it's not found in Device Manager anymore. HP send him a new wireless card and I just installed it, but same thing -- can't get the orange light to turn blue, not found in Device Manager anywhere, etc. Everything else with the system runs great. We've tried a reformat/reinstall with no luck, too (well, on a new hard drive, but still). We even tried an XP install on a new drive with no luck.

There are soooo many reports of wireless problems with these laptops that I can't believe HP hasn't made any announcements or recalls pertaining to them.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

Hi Zeromus,
I had the same issue. Eventually, your wireless card will start to disappear and will not work. Get it replaced before you wait for it to totally not function
Unfortunately for me, i had this issue, but it wasn't a big deal for me to reboot. Sadly, a month and a half after this started, the WIFI disappeared. I called in and did all the suggestive stuff and nothing helped. They were about to ask me to send it in to be replaced for free, till they found out that my warranty is 3 weeks expired. I should have taken care of this before I let the wifi totally fail. This is to help you other guys out there, take care of it now!!

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

From my own experience, and it seems from others, the only "solution" is a motherboard replacement. Obviously. it's not a solution, just a stop gap measure as the problem is sure to return.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

Actually, you might prevent this problem (not exactly sure though) by reducing the performance you want from the nvidia when plugged in and going for more power saving for that. But that's if you get a replacement motherboard.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

I now have the same problem. Wireless card disappeared completely. First it came back for a day and now there's nothing I can do to get it to show up.
I guess I have to send it in, nothing is working to fix it. I tried everything.

Safe mode. Removing battery. Removing the Wifi card. Reinstall drivers.

Nothing works. There's no software solution for the problem :(

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

I have the same problem since July 25, 2008. My model is tx1120us. I bought it Feb, 2007. I have tried to upgrade the drivers and recovery the windows vista system. None of them could make it work again. I thought it's the miniPCI card broken. I bought a replacement 407159-001. It's still not working. HP has to do something about this problem.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

Try this... but it may work sometimes, is broke or bust...

press f8 when you see the HP Logo when the comes up, use the startup repair... it will take 15 mins... then it'll restart the system... try to switch the wifi button on and off several times and if you are LUCKY... it will change to blue and your wifi will be accessible...

P/S - I had not turn off my laptop for more the a month just to make sure i have my WiFi on for work... Bummer... HP Please O Please DO SOMETHING !!~!!
