Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

Just adding to the list and concurring the same defect

I have a tx1000 (1320us) it is my second one with in 13 months - the first one broke within the first week of purchase. My second one started experiencing the same wireless issues everyone else has mentioned about 6 months ago, it now has trouble booting and will not work. I've had my share of "customer service" and IT talks as well with hp to no avail.

Is there anything we can actually do to get HP to recognize this? Maybe everyone call in on the same day?

This series is a lemon and HP needs to own up to it.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

Hi all,

Like others, even am going through the same. My TX1000, (as if it was designed to) got defective ASA it went OOW (July 30, 2008). Since the Tech Support wasn't much help and the cost of repair was so high, I thought of not fixing this problem, till the time i came across this forum. After reading so many TX1000 Customers issue and to the fact that HP is not acknowledging this issue, I've changed my mind. Am gonna fight for it. I know we can win, there are so many of us to prove the faulty product that was manufactured during late 2006 and early 2007. I've sent a mail to the CEO and lets see if i get a response from them on this. Am not going to settle for a Free Repair OR Free Replacement. I want this piece to be replaced with a different model. Tell me why should we settle for anything lesser? Neither we stole the money for this purchase nor we stole this computer. Am sure like me most of you would hate to go for a compromise for your hard earned money. As if going through this is not big enuff. If you believe in me then please check this topic out regularly.
Peace till then.
Regards

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

My tx1301au died on me on feb12th 2009. My warranty expired on Dec 29th 2008. My motherboard had already been replaced once on Nov 25th 2008.

HP india quotes 39,000rs (~800$) . They say Motherboard and Display are screwed.

HP india doesnt seem to give a damn about the 90 day replacement policy which is clearly shown on the website screen shot -http://twitpic.com/1nx43/full

I am stuck speaking to tech support who earlier guided me to send the laptop for repair and told me motherboard would be replace for free since it comes under the 90 days period and a week later they send me a quote.

They say the clause been updated to 30 days now. But clearly website says otherwise and tech support also told me it was 90 days. few days later tech support calls back after speaking to service engineer and manager to say he was wrong and sorry. But website still says otherwise. Who do i trust ? Twist the rules to suit yourself , thats HP for you.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

I â againâ have the same problem my tx1000. I bought this laptop September 2007 and this problem occurred after about 6months. After unsuccessful attempt to replace wireless lan card HP sent me, I had to send in my notebook to fix the problem. It has been working fine but just today the wireless went dead again. I am so frustrated because I am so busy with my work and I canâ t do anything without my notebook. I would just buy an usb wireless adaptor but after reading posts in all these forums, I realized have to worry about my whole laptop failing and I just canâ t afford to buy a new one now. Considering the amount of trouble reports of this exactly the same failure, this is a clear defect of the product itself and HP must do something about it. Warrant is a protection system for unexpected failures only. Nobody would have bought this computer knowing they can use it for 18 months.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

Hello. After 15 months of purchase, my HP TX1000z has been having a lot of issues. First the wireless card stopped working. A week later I could not connect to my TV via the S-video, there would be no display on my TV. A couple of weeks after that, my laptop would not start the first time I pressed the power button. All the indicator lights would turn on but I would get a blank screen and now my HP TX1000z does not even turn on.
HP is not willing to accept that there is a manufacturing problem with this laptop, they keep telling me that this is an isolated incident. HP needs to recall this line and replace it with a new laptop.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

I have a tx1000 laptop 1 1/2 years old. Here's what I think is wrong. A couple of months ago I turned on my laptop only to find it wouldn't work. After checking with several forums, I examined the ram. I removed one chip (assuming it might have been bad) I then switched chips and found the the laptop would come on with on chip in on a certian slot. I then ordered two 2gig ram chips and assumed that the existing ram was bad. When I installed the ram, the computer did the same thing. so I only installed one chip because it was the SLOT that was bad (Either chip would work on the functioning slot.
Why would a slot go bad?

Simple, the motherboard is overheating.

A couple of weeks later I had the same problem as everyone else here with the wifi. I even considered buying a new broadcom modem, but then I remembered the slot and the ram. What if this slot is dying too?

I totally think that these systems frequently overheat and that the basic compenents are breaking down over time, specifically the exposed metal connectors which lead to the slots.

I work in engineering when I'm not laid off and I must say, don't purchase a product from a company that isn't capable of engineering a new device. Even if it's espically tiny; that's why research is so important.

I didn't give HP $2000 for 18 months of laptop use!

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

I actually have 2 of the TX 1000 Tablet Notebooks and 1 week after the HP warranty ran out on both of them, they both had the exact same problem happen.
The wifi is working fine, then all of the sudden the next day it says the wifi card does not exist.

I had a computer tech test the cards and they are fine, the problem is where they connect to the motherboard.

HP solution is to allow me to buy another notebook at a discounted price.

This all seems really quirky that everyone is having the same issue, but as of yet HP has not done a single recall on the TX 1000 models. Other models that have ad the same issue have been recalled.

My local best buy told me of 4 other models HP has recalled in the last few months for the same problems.

I have always been a loyal consumer to HP, we have printers, laptops and desk tops but I think we will be switching over to other brands in the near future!

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

The solution is just to uninstall the display adaptor. Don't reinstall it no matter how tempting!

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

I would like to add I have a TX1000 and I lost my connection and screen within the first year of the warranty and sent it back to Circuit City which sent it to HP for 3 wks,.. it work fine for about 3 months then I started noticing my connection light wouldnt turn blue/green it stayed reddish orange and no connection. It seems to be no fix for this. This is absolutely ridiculous esp,...for those of us who rely totally on the wireless to work. It is damn frustrating.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

I have two clients with TX1000 laptops, both have been having problems with them including loss of wireless intermittent booting, loss of display (panel and external) and now they have both died. They both power up lights & fan on, attempt to access hard drive and cd, but no boot and no display. Of course HP Support says "There are no reported issues with this model".

I have been buying HP equipment since before they made computers but I think it may be time to move on.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

To anyone just discovering this problem, this is what I've learned:
1 Fixing your tablet will cost too much, and HP will not accept responsibility, so it's probably best just to buy a USB wireless adapter and get used to it.
2 The problem seems to come from overheating, so always choose the low-power option, and use a chillmat as often as possible.
My wireless died twice, once under warranty, once not. I've been using the chillmat since the second meltdown and things have been fine. My motherboard hasn't fried yet, though I leave the tablet running all the time.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

I have the tx1220us.
It's dead after 1.5 year.
Same symptom.
Now it would not start. Tried to switch on, all LED lights blink and then off right away.

After researching over the internet, the followings are observed :-

- very high temperature even under medium cpu load (50%).

- the nvidia graphic chip set has very high temperature (by SpeedFan - over 70c for no load, and >99c with medium load. Note: this is after cleaning the heatsink.)

- more use, more problem will show up. (e.g. sleep won't wake up, switch on fail, wireless hardware not detected, expresscard not detected, etc.)

Basically, the tx1000 series will fail within 2 years and after 1 year warranty. ( I guess this is by design!)

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

After 2 years, my tx1000 suddenly lost its wi-fi after a hibernation period. Fixed it using System Restore to a point prior to IE 8.
I agree with the forum that HP TX... series is an unreliable notebook. One weak point is the cooling design: notebook is mostly too warm and the cooling fans are working very hard. I would place the notebook on a surface so there is lots of free space around the fan areas.
...Good working notebook when it behaves.
...Not recommended investment.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

Count me in. I have the same problem after owning my TX1320 for just over 1.5 years. Soon after buying it I had a strange problem where the speakers emitted a loud crackling noise all the time, even when muted. HP replaced the screen/speaker unit under warranty. However, it looks like they won't be so helpful with this issue.

I'm not pleased with HP.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

i am so honoured to be a part of this group.
Owner of hp tx1003au.
After the expiry of the warranty, one fine day .. I try to switch on my laptop, the display never comes up..
$150 for motherboard repair. The problem relapses.
another $450 for the replacement of the motherboard .. it has been a month since then.
Now the wireless adapter stopped working.
.. Lot of people in my network using HP pavillion notebooks are worried.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

I never had the wireless problem, but I do have the black screen which comes after it.

After some searching, I found that you can both fix your motherboard after it has overheated, and prevent it from happening again.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

I've been using the tx1000, 1223au series and I have the same problem. The first time I bought one it broke down in 2 days, so I exchanged it for a new one. The second one went well until a few days before when the wifi completely and utterly broke down.

I tried everything but ripping the computer up and melting everything into a bloody black singularity. (well I almost did... almost)

I never contacted HP support again after the incident with the 1st computer, and after reading this forum, realized that it was wise not to do so. The computer is a lemon, and a goddamn joke to anyone who's been loyal to HP.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

I have found a temporary "fix" (if you want to call it that), so that you can actually use this piece of garbage. If all the lights come on but it does not boot, you may want to try this. It works for me, I can't guarantee that it will work for you but it won't hurt.

- perform a battery drain by unplugging the computer, taking out the battery and holding down the power button 30s to 1 min.

- put the battery back in and plug in the computer

- turn on the computer while simultaneously hitting F10 rapidly. It probably won't work the first time but keep turning it off and repeating the F10 part until you see the HP startup screen.

- while the HP startup screen is displayed, hit F8 a couple of times to get to the safe mode selection screen.

- start the computer in safe mode, right click My computer and select properties; click on device manager and find the display adapter (probably will be GeoForce or something to that effect); right click the display adapter and select uninstall; it will ask if you want to remove the drivers as well, select yes.

- shutdown the computer

- restart computer using the same F10 trick as before (again, it may take a few tries)

- at the startup screen, hit F8 to get back to the safe mode selection screen

- this time select Boot in low resolution mode (or something to that effect)

Hopefully, the computer will start up. If not, keep trying the powerdrain/F10/safe mode trick.
If you do get it to start normally, it will obviously attempt to install the display adapter/video adapter driver. That's fine, just don't restart.
If all of that worked and the computer has started normally, you just have to uninstall the video adapter driver each time you go to shutdown the computer and perform the F10 trick to get it to start up.

Again, it has worked for me and I'm not guaranteeing that it will work for you. Even with doing all of that and getting the computer to boot normally, there's still no wireless so you'll either have to use an ethernet cord or buy a USB wireless adapter. The other bad news is that you have to use the standard video adapter (which will be uninstalled each time you shut down), but at least you can use the computer.

Give it a try and see if it works.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

Here we go.
The last Mobo replacement for my tx1000 thankfully lasted one year. But, the problem's back again. I know how this will end.
3 Motherboards burnt out in 2 years. Unbelievable.

God help us all!

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

Just posting back that I performed the repair, and it worked. I made an english video for it.

Here is a video link to how I fixed the HP tx1000 black screen/no power to LCD / boot problem. It works fine, if you're willing to do the work.

http://video.msn.com/video.aspx?vid=399ede98-2b6f-44c7-9032-52c46962f20f

The jury is still out on the long-term effectiveness of the penny, though. Time will tell if the problem recurs. Make sure to use a penny which is older than 1982, so that it is made of 95% copper instead of zinc.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

I have the tx1417cl, and just encountered the same problem. I live in Israel, and don't see anything I can do about fixing this. I called customer care in the US, but they wanted me to pay just to receive advice. Unbelievable.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

Same problem! I was told that 100 days out of warranty means I must pay or go online for a chat with a technician. Chat link does not work! Called again and was told abruptly that my refusal to pay made me ineligible to speak to someone. Supervisor was more polite, but also not helpful.

Since this is clearly a pervasive issue (mine is a tx1417cl) I would have thought that customers would get the kind of service that Mr Shank expected and received.

Not sure what to do next. I don't think that HP is playing fair with this issue.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

I have the same problem and my laptop is out of warranty now.

I tried explaining to the local HP support that this problem seems to have affected a lot of HP customers.

He is asking for an 'advisory code' issued by HP that describes this problem. Seems this is available for the same problem in dv series laptops but not for the tx series tablets.

Anybody know if HP has issued an advisory code for this issue?
Any suggestions on what I can do to get HP to resolve this issue for me?

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

Arasu,

There was never an advisory on the TX series from HP. They refuse to issue one. They believe us TX owners are a minority that they can ignore.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

Yeah, I have the same exact problem. I'm just waiting until they repair mine for free. I will only gain the respect that I have lost if they fix it for free.
First the WLAN switch didn't work, then the black screen on boot up. *sigh*
