Access a device connected in another switch.
Hello everybody. How are you?
Im little bit confused about one thing...i have theses two switches, 3 Com 4500 and 3 Com 2928, the printer is connected on the "2928". Each one working in your own subnet, 3Com 4500(20.20.0.X) and 3Com 2928(192.168.1.X).
I already tried to do a trunk and create a VLAN on the Switch 4500, configure a interface for the vlan and do the same on the switch 2928 except for the interface. But i dont know if the IP Routing is enabled or not.
I tried to make the trunk and do routes like:
3Com 4500: 20.20.0.0 255.255.240.0 192.168.100.1
3Com 2928: 192.168.100.0 255.255.255.0 20.20.0.1
But nothing of this resolve the problem. Someone can help me? Thanks in advance.

Re: Access a device connected in another switch.
I dont know if this is good practice or not, but i did this way...
I create 2 Vlans in each switche
Switch A:
Vlan 255 - 10.5.0.1; 255.255.255.0
Vlan 100 - 192.168.100.2; 255.255.255.0
Swtich B:
Vlan 255 - 10.5.0.2; 255.255.255.0
Vlan 200 - 172.168.200.2; 255.255.255.0
So i create this routes:
Switch A:
10.5.0.1 - 255.255.255. - 10.5.0.2
172.16.200.2 - 255.255.255.0 - 10.5.0.2
Switch B :
10.5.0.2 - 255.255.255. - 10.5.0.1
192.168.100.2 - 255.255.255.0 - 10.5.0.1
Now the Switch A can ping i the switch and the vlans of the "B" and "vice versa". But i can't ping from Vlan 1 in any other vlan.

Re: Access a device connected in another switch.
Hi,
Every subnet/VLAN needs a default gateway, since local clients can only ARP for local addresses.
If you have no default gateway on a host, it has no idea how to get to another subnet.
The switch's default gateway will be the address to which it forwards all packets with a destination it is unaware of (just like a host).
ARP if local, forward to gateway if not.
Command "ip default-gateway" on the access switches pointing to the core switch. Try this
