I'm new to HPE routing switches. I have a new HP FlexFabric 5700 and I have done some basic configuration so far:
I assumed the HP 5700 would connect to the network out of the box, but I can't ping or access it while on the network. I have to connect my laptop directly to it in order to connect the Web interface.
What I need to accomplish:
Get network access to the HP 5700.
Pass DHCP through to devices on the HP 5700.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Hello
How did you connect the HP switch to your network? How did you configure the ports on both sides?
Kind regards
Hi,
Can you show us, the configuration of the devices connecting you newly installed device ?
Especially Vlan & Interface configuration.
Jean-Christophe
Dell PowerConnect 6224:
Note: Default VLAN, No tagged ports
HPE FlexFabric 5700:
Note: Default VLAN, No tagged ports
I changed ports 1 and 2 on the HP switch to Access. I can now get a DHCP IP when I connect a laptop to it, but I can't connect to the internet.
Hi,
Can you ping your gateway ?
Do you have your DNS also configured through DNS ?
Can you ping google.com IP address (ie: 172.217.19.14) ?
It could also be a Spanning tree issue. Can you test with only one cable connected between your 2 Switches ?
Jean-Christophe
We have the following setup:
The PC plugged into the switch gets the following from the DHCP server:
I can't ping the gateway, DNS servers or Public Servers (Google) from the PC.
Also, the two DNS server IP's have been added to the IPv4 DNS settings on the switch.
Hi,
Your DHCP Server configuration is wrong. Everything is configured with a /24 netmask execpt your PC that received a /23 netmask.
You have to review your DHCP server configuration.
Based on what you shared, your DHCP server should have the following configuration:
DHCP Range: 172.16.1.<FirstIP> - 172.16.1.<LastIP> (ie: 172.16.1.16 - 172.16.1.127)
DHCP Default GW: 172.16.1.1
DHCP Netmask: 255.255.255.0
DHCP DNS Server: 172.16.1.251, 172.16.1.252
Then everything should work.
