Where is the Comware 7 for 5820 series?

According to:

https://www.hpe.com/us/en/product-catalog/networking/networking-switches/pip.overview.networking-switches.7482126.html

"
New Comware 7 modular network operating system with ISS resiliency.
"

But looking at the support pages Comware 7 is still lacking (for download)... so where is this Comware 7 available for download for the 5820 series?

Maybe...Product Marketing was/is - as sometimes happens - ahead of (Software) Development?

Apachez,

Interesting question.  I have sent an email to the Product Manager to see what the story is.  I'll let you know when I hear back.

Re: Where is the Comware 7 for 5820 series?

David,

Please do let us know what you find out.  It's been rumored for the last two years, is it due to lack of sufficient RAM?

Re: Where is the Comware 7 for 5820 series?

Good question.

Hope not to be Off-Topic...but generically "RAM" would refer to:

  • SDRAM (generally referenced as the Switch's "Memory": 512MB, 1GB, 2GB and so on...).
  • NAND Flash Memory (generally referenced as the Switch's "Flash": 512MB, 1GB and so on...).
  • NOR Flash Memory.

Excluding the NOR Flash Memory which is very little (few MBs), the question would be: does the SDRAM size limit the support of Comware 7 instead of Comware 5?

If you look at HPE 5130 HI, just as example, it uses Comware 7.10 with a Memory size of 2GB and a Flash size of 512MB (the same 5820X/5800 own). That's to say that those values of SDRAM and Flash Memory can be used as thresholds under which Comware 7 would possibly not be implemented.

Units with 2GB SDRAM and 512MB Flash:

  • HPE FlexFabric 5820X 14XG SFP+ 2-slot/1 OAA Slot Switch (JC106B)
  • HPE FlexFabric 5820X 24XG SFP+ Switch (JC102B)
  • HPE FlexFabric 5820AF 24XG Switch (JG219B)

Units with 1GB SDRAM (in the past they had 512MB only) and 512MB Flash:

  • HP 5800-24G-PoE+ Switch (JC099A)
  • HP 5800-24G Switch (JC100A)
  • HP 5800-24G-SFP Switch with 1 Interface Slot (JC103A)
  • HP 5800-48G-PoE+ Switch with 1 Interface Slot (JC104A)
  • HP 5800-48G Switch with 1 Interface Slot (JC105A)
  • HP 5800-48G Switch with 2 Slots (JC101A)
  • HP 5800AF-48G Switch (JG225A)

Note that actually the HPE 5800 Switch series with B end letter on the Product Number (so JC099B, JC100B, JC103B, JC104B, JC105B, JC101B and JG225B) owns 2GB SDRAM instead so it is comparable with 5820X.

So, probably, the HPE 5820X Switch series fulfills the Memory (and Flash) requirement to support Comware 7 compared to (old and A) HP 5800 Switch series which owned only 1GB of SDRAM, on the other hand...the Comware 5 is supported on ALL 5800 Switch series models (old, A and B) other than on 5820X too and that's because its Memory requirements are really low (512MB at least?).
