Command View/EVA3000/OVO

Hi,
I have to upgrade Command View form V6.x
to V7.x and then to V8.x.
The EVA3000 is monitored with OVO Manager.
Customer asked me if upgrading CV to version major then V6.x could have problem or change configuration about the integration of the mibs/traps/OVO.
If yes, he have to reconfigure OVO?

thanks

Re: Command View/EVA3000/OVO

here is the EVA software compatibility reference:
http://bizsupport.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01525950/c01525950.pdf

From here you can see that the VCS 3110 is the prerequisite of the Command View 8.01 installation (page 5)

are you using WEBES for the SNMP trapping to the OVO pls?

Re: Command View/EVA3000/OVO

You can not upgrade to CV8. You have to un-install any previous Command View EVA installations before installing Command View EVA 8.

Is there a reason why you think you need to go from 6 --> 7 -->8?

One thing you will need to do for this "upgrade" is upgrade your EVA license(s) to work with CV7/8.

Re: Command View/EVA3000/OVO

Thank you everybody for the answers.

I know that CV must upgrated before to V7.x and than to V8.x and we have already tried the licences.
I would like know some things:
- the configuration of the trap for OVO will be loss?
- The customer has to reconfigure OVO Manager?

Many Thanks.

Re: Command View/EVA3000/OVO

ok,
I will describe one possible CommandView/OVO cooperation:
EVA/Webes is sending the SNMP traps to the OVO server.
OVO server has its EVA template (inline with the EVA SNMP MIB) to be able to process the EVA traps.
So they seem not to interfere, in other words, it should be sufficient if CommandViewEVA and OVO server are compatible in the method of communication (SNMP versions 1-3 and MIB - OVO EVA template)
the pain is one part of the reality

Re: Command View/EVA3000/OVO

Hi There,

To review all the information supplied above:

1: VCS V3.110 will function with CV 6.0.2 so there is no need to upgrade to CV8 - unless you want to. There is no more added functionality that you will get. If you wish to go to active/active or use containers then you need to go to VCS V4.100. VCS3.110 is just the latest V3 code for EVA3/5 systems.

2: If you wish to upgrade to CV8 there is NO need to go to CV7 first. Just use add remove programs to delete CV6 then install CV8 and then patch to 8.0.1.

3: If you go to CV8 then you WILL have to upgrade your licenses [as mentioned above]. If you do not then you will have 60 days of unlimited CV/BC/CA. After the 60 day period if you have not got the new licences then you will not be able to create LUNs, snapshots, etc until you do. Simple uninstalling and reinstalling CV8 will not make any difference.

4: OK, if you have new licences and you wish to go to CV8 then to make sure that you still have your snmp trap settings then before you uninstall CV6 go to:
"system options" tab
from here select "configure event notifications" tab
from here select "get configuration file"
[this is to save the snmp config file]
In this window save the file to a location of your choice. I would suggest that you do not try to edit this file.
Now when you upgrade to CV8 all you have to do is go to the same place and then select "browse" option to the location of the file you saved before and then use the "configure" tab to restore the file = done.

5: Do the same for the hosts file by looking in the "configure hosts notification" and save/restore that file as well.

Not that it makes too much of a difference, but 8.0.2 is out now. You still need to install the base 8.0 first, but no need to upgrade to 8.0.1 then 8.0.2.. just go straight from 8.0 to 8.0.2
