On the p410i - got BBWC or cache on it?

You can configure it with ACU (array configuration utility) which is found in the smartstart.

RAID level, how many spares, r/w cache ratio, stripe size, etc

What are you going to use the server for?

I want 2 drives in spare need for domain controller

Re: Creating RAID on DL380 G7

If you need two drives as spares I guess you have to go with RAID5.

(as it's kind of hard to make raid1/1+0 with 7 drives and two has to be spares..).

Actualy, it's not.

...since the Smart Array Controller does not create a "RAID Array"... it only creates an "Array"... which you then carve out logical disks that have a RAID setting.

You can mix and match RAID Settings in a single array.

I.E. With 5 drives in the array and 2 spares... you can have:
1 Logical Drive at RAID1+0 for the OS
1 Logical Drive at RAID5 for data
more logical drives with various settings depending on the usage of the server.

For a Domain Controller, you should not be using it to store or serve up applications and/or data (except maybe a local repository of software you use to install/configure your OS and basic utilities).

For this, a Single logical drive would work, but 2 logical drives would make future changes easier... if you ever needed to expand the array later.
