Updating HDD FW attached to an MSA1500

How do I update the HDD fw on drives attached to the MSA1500? I booted the FW CD 9.0 from the Proliant and it didn't seem to see the drives attached to the MSA. MSA FW is currently at 5.3. Thanks Dave
