HSG Element Manager - how to get back deleted HSG
HSG Element Manager still works and I can connect to it via IE, logon etc etc. It says automanage is enabled, the array found the !NEWCONxx connection ids which have been applied to a Lun yet Element Manager is not re-discovering the array.
At some point Element Manager had discovered this array but it was "deleted" from Element Manager prior to be shutdown.
Anyone out there got an ideas? Could the array be in a database somewhere and this is why Element Manager is not re-displaying it?
Element Manager is v1.0f, my array is running v86F-13. Yes, all a bit old but supporting some legacy systems which are to be retired shortly.

Re: HSG Element Manager - how to get back deleted HSG
Personally I never had much success with HSG Element Manager, and nearly always reverted to hooking up the serial console cable directly to the HSG controllers...
Hope this helps,
Regards,
Rob

Re: HSG Element Manager - how to get back deleted HSG
The thing about HSG Element Manager is that, when combined with the old SMA, it can send alerts via various mechanisms when things fail (e.g. disk or cache battery). That's why I'm trying to get it running again.

Re: HSG Element Manager - how to get back deleted HSG
I do recall early versions of the SMA having a little SQL database, but don't recall whether that was for CV EVA or Element Manager.
If you're only interested in getting the HSG stuff working, then you could try and dig out the SMA Quick Restore CD and get things back to their original state.
Another thought... If you've reconnected things, is the zoning on the SAN switches correct so that the SMA can see the HSG controllers ?
Cheers,
Rob

Re: HSG Element Manager - how to get back deleted HSG
Yes, there's an SQL database in there somewhere. I'm not overly good when it comes to SQL but I may have to delve deeper.
It's a fair bit of work to re-image the whole unit. Remember this is Win2000 so there's been a few patches over the years.
And yes, the SMA can see the HSG; I get the !NEWCONxx's on the HSG to prove this so zoning etc it all good. Through device manager on the SMA I can also see the HSG80 Lun (this is a SCSI-s HSG as well).
I'm considering "removing" HSG element manager and then re-installing it. I think I still have the swp kits floating around for all that. Hopefully that will fix it.
