Permanent Clean of Disks

Does anyone have a rock solid method of wiping disks of all data? This needs to ensure that no data can be retrieved from the disk if it where to be taken out of a server/frame.

Re: Permanent Clean of Disks

Easy way - lvremove/vgremove then vgcreate/lvcreate and crreate a new filesystem.

Hard way - and military grade:

How to use ODE to wipe out a disk

Reboot the machine
Insert the support plus media cd
Stop the "boot primary path"

Then find the cdrom drive:

>search

>boot

At the ISL prompt:

ISL>ode

At the ODE prompt:

ODE>diskexpt

You will be prompted for a password, type in:
tpeusoot

Commands to use in DISKEXPT:

To see disks: dispmap
Select disk: testdisk #
Then enter:

wrtmt

For range, enter 0/ and the max number displayed
Select 3 for userdefined, then enter 0 to write all zero's

Wait.....a long time............

Do this for all disks.....

Re: Permanent Clean of Disks

Passing large magnets over them is quite good. Writing random data over the entire disk at least ten times is also good. The only way to be absolutely sure though is to grind the disks to a fine powder. If your data is THAT sensitive, it's the only way.

There are techniques for reading data from disks that have been overwritten several times .

Hi

"mediainit" does the formatting of the disks, but it takes very long time.

i prefer removing /etc/lvmtab and /stand/vmunix* files
