How To Migrate Operating System Disk To San

Instead of having a server's operating system disk on its internal drive, are there procedures to move the operating system to a san disk(s)?

Hello,

you can use software-based mirror to mirror the running system directly to a LUN. Another way is a image tool like norton ghost. Take care about the drives and HBAs. They should support boot from SAN.

Hi,

There probably are procedures, but these will vary depending on what operating system you're running...

Looks like booting from the SAN isnt such a widespread idea. I will continue researching. Thanks for your input.

Booting from the SAN is widespread, and I highly recommend it.
Can you imagine if we used PCs to manage our enterprise systems? ... oops.
