Hi
I just upgraded EMC PowerPath on my HPUX 11.23 server to the latest version 5.1.0 and the Service pack and after install the server took about 90 minutes to boot, the normal boot time is usually about 8minutes. During the boot process it sat running vxconfigd for a very long time but I can not find a single error in either console or system event logs to indicate why this happened. We do have veritas installed but only use it for the local root disk, all our clariion disks are configured with LVM.
Any ideas??.
TIA
Steph

Solution
Hi, Stephanie
http://knowledgebase.emc.com/emcice/documentDisplay.do;jsessionid=84D04D0D0B6686CBD0C2C4291DAF23EA?docType=1006&clusterName=DefaultCluster&resultType=5002&groupId=1&page=&docProp=$solution_id&docPropValue=emc192179&passedTitle=null
Environment: OS: HP-UX 11i (11.11)
Environment: OS: HP-UX 11i v2 (11.23)
Environment: OS: HP-UX 11i v3 (11.31)
Environment: EMC SW: PowerPath 5.1
Problem: HP-UX slow to boot after upgrading from PowerPath 4.5 to 5.1
Problem: The PowerPath 5.1 powermt load operation takes 12 minutes to complete, while PowerPath 4.5 powermt load completes within a few seconds. These symptoms occur regardless of the size of the configuration.
PowerPath 5.1:
+ /sbin/date
Thu Jul 3 12:03:24 JST 2008
+ /sbin/powermt load
+ /sbin/date
Thu Jul 3 12:15:19 JST 2008
PowerPath 4.5x:
+ /sbin/date
Thu Jul 3 20:14:55 JST 2008
+ /sbin/powermt load
+ /sbin/date
Thu Jul 3 20:15:17 JST 2008
Fix: Workaround:
Remove powermt.custom to force /sbin/emcstartup to skip the powermt load
Permanent fix:
A PowerPath hotfix for this issue is available on request. Contact the EMC Customer Support Center or your local support representative. Please quote this solution ID.

Re: HPUX 11.23 - boots very slowly after EMC Powerpath upgrade.
Hi,
Because, here you just have upgrade pp.
I suppose the problem comes from the update. In such cases, I check first all the prerequisite. Personally, every time I forget some thing;)
So, have you check Minimum qualified level: September 2004 HP-UX and because you have also vxvm VxVM/VCS 5.0 MP1 RP1 is supported on pp5.1 sp1.
Another idea, it's to check if some issue like this exist on powerlink.
