3PAR 7200 - Performance Issue
Hi ,
We are using a 7200 - 44 10K FC drive array and we see a lot of performance hit from the PD stats. For each drive ,it goes up to 300+ and also I see DelAcks in the cache more than the write cache which indicates a performace saturation.
Also the latency for every vlun goes beyond 50ms easily and how do i find which host is causing it. I ran a "srstatvlun groupby hostname" and ofcourse it does show me a list of hosts with huge numbers but what are the nominal values I could compare the host list with for the IOPs/transfer rates and IOsize. How do i find the host thats overloading my array because the host end disk secs/transfer and average rates are all fine.

Re: 3PAR 7200 - Performance Issue
Hi Niveda,
Please follow the below troubleshooting steps when facing performance issues on an HPE 3PAR 7200 storage array:
1. Check the performance metrics of the HPE 3PAR storage array, including latency, IOPS, and throughput.
Look for any abnormal spikes or consistent high values that indicate performance saturation.
2. Review the performance metrics of the individual host connected to the storage array. Monitor IOPS, throughput, and latency for each host.
Compare these values with historical data or nominal values to identify any outliers.
3. Use the HPE 3PAR Host Explore tool to examine host-specific performance metrics.
HPE Host Explorer for HPE 3PAR storage systems automates host discovery and collection of detailed host configuration information that is critical to fast provisioning and simplifying maintenance.
4. Review the activity of each host connected to the storage array. Look for any applications or processes that might be generating excessive I/O or causing performance bottlenecks.
5. Verify the storage configuration, including RAID levels, cache settings, and disk tiering. Ensure that the storage is optimally configured for the workload.
6. Monitor the host queue depth to see if it is exceeding recommended values. A high host queue depth can indicate that the host is not processing I/O efficiently.
7. Analyze the workloads of individual hosts to identify any I/O-intensive applications or workloads. Consider balancing workloads across hosts to distribute the I/O load more evenly.
8. Review the network and SAN connectivity between the hosts and the storage array. Check for any network or SAN-related issues that could be affecting performance.
9. Ensure that the HPE 3PAR storage array's firmware and software are up to date. Check for any available updates that might address known performance issues.
If you are unable to identify the host causing the overload or resolve the performance issues, it is recommended reach out to HPE Tech Support for further assistance and troubleshooting.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Satish
