3PAR 8200 and new disks
Hi all!
We bought 4 disks for 3PAR 8200 fw: 3.3.1.648 (MU5)+P126,P132,P135,P140,P146,P150,P151,P155,P156
Checking disc compatibility for my hardware
I don't like that the information on the disc bin is different from the information on the disc.
But according to the document everything is compatible.
Is it so?
Can I install these drives in my equipment?New disk
Old disk
[Moderator edit: Removed the confidential info. ]
1. I can hot mount disks
2. Prompt commands to check disk initialization
Thanks!

Re: Query: 3PAR 8200 and new disks
Hello @pogreb33,
This PD's product number is not among the compatible drives with 3PAR 8000. Let me check my sources further and confirm you.

Srinivas Bhat

Re: 3PAR 8200 and new disks
Hello @pogreb33,
I checked about it further. The drive (drive PM1633A, model no. AREA1920S5xnNTRI) is compatible with your 3PAR 8200. What you must be conscious of is, this drive is a non-encrypted drive model. If rest of the drives are encrypted, you may not mix with them.
Please let me know if you need assistance on this.
Regards,
Srinivas Bhat

Hi sbhat09!
The drives that are installed have the following characteristics
Samsung ARFX1920S5xnNTRI
s/n 0M100137

Are these drives encrypted?

Re: 3PAR 8200 and new disks
Hello @pogreb33,
You can check the encryption status of the existing drives with 'showpd -s' command. Look for SedState column. NotCapable, not encrypted are fine with installing this drive.
Regarding your present query - Samsung ARFX1920S5xnNTRI is also non-encrypted drive.

Srinivas Bhat

Re: 3PAR 8200 and new disks
Yes. I have all disks mode SetState -non_capable
How do I properly install disks?
1. I insert a disk one into the next slot. I'm waiting for the indicators to flash
2. Next, what commands do I need to run to check if the disk has been successfully attached? Do I need to perform systun

Re: 3PAR 8200 and new disks
Hello @pogreb33,
If it is a new disk, insert the disk in an empty slot and admit the disk (you can use admitpd command). Admit process will update the drive firmware to match with the system OS and brings to a usable state.

Hello @pogreb33,
Is there a specific purpose you want to do tunesys?
I don't see any need of tunesys here.

Hello @pogreb33,
Sorry, this is my last question . . .
Which CPG they belong to? What is the RAID and set size of the CPG?

Re: 3PAR 8200 and new disks
Hello @pogreb33,
As I mentioned before, there is no need of tunesys here. I see the disks 0-5 are utilised slightly more compared to 6-11. Upto 5% of difference is utilization is normal. That is not a problem
If you are still looking for equal data distribution, you can run tunesys at CPG level. The command will be 'tunesys -cpg <cpg_name>'

Re: 3PAR 8200 and new disks
Hello @pogreb33,
The 5387 GiB you see there is usable space that is available for the volumes. Among the available chunklets (1787 chunklets per drive), after deducting the spare (around 8-10% from each drive) and RAID overhead (depending on the type of RAID and set size), the remaining will be usable space.
Here after present utilization, you have approximately 5387GiB more usable space.

Srinivas Bhat
