Hi icsit2,

Deduplication is one of the data reduction techniques that targets and removes duplicate data to store space. This feature can be enabled on Virtual Volumes which are drawing the space from SSDs.

If the deduplication is enabled on HDDs, it may have an impact on the HDDs performance as this technique will search for the duplicates in the data that is being written on the disks.

thanks for replying to my question.

I took a look at the documents provided but still it's not absolutely clear to me, is it possible with a hybrid flash CPG to enable deduplication? Or maybe in other words, can a VVOL live partly on flash, partly on HDDs and have deduplication anabled on it?

Hi icsit2,

A Virtual Volume will draw its space from only one CPG.

To answer your question, a virtual volume cannot live partly on Flash, and partly on HDDs and you may not be able to enable the deduplication.
